It's finally happened. My '31 coupe went under the knife. I've had the coupe for a while and have enjoyed it as a stocker, but now that I have my cabriolet, I decided (with a lot of "You NEED to chop that thing!" coments from my fiance) that it was time to drop the top and do something cool with it. I'm keeping the fenders on it and running a warmed up banger motor, so I decided on a 3 inch chop. I drove it to the shop, where we then pulled the tank and the garnish molding and got to work. I think it turned out really great! I'd like to thank my fiance Linda, Fidgiter, Jake, Revhead, Jennifer and a special thanks to MarkX. I was happy to have MarkX's experience there since he's done some really great chops in the past. Here is what the car started out as. Fidgiter and MarkX looking at how to remove windshield stuck screws FIRST CUT!!! Jake's turn MarkX making it look easy Jennifer and Linda, who did a lot of the welding the second day. What a girl! I'm a lucky guy! And the top is loose! Test fit. Looks good Doors and roof tacked back into place. Down hill from here! What an improvement. Lone Star Round Up bound! I'll be continuing to work on it, including suspension and brakes, but for now, I'm happy the chop is here! Thanks for checking it out!
How far did you get today? I was glad to help, it's been a long time coming...you finally have a hot rod <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PZfVPjqMPQo"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PZfVPjqMPQo" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Linda and I welded up the rear panel, pie cut the window channels, and did a lot of grinding. We did about 5 hours on it, and stopped when I pinched the hell out of her hand with some pliers. That's going to leave a mark for a while! (Sorry babe!) I'm glad you got some great progress on your modified today! Can't wait to park next to you at LSR!! I thought I would do MarkX a favor and not blow up his shop. I drove it there, and the gas fumes were pretty strong. I drained the tank, and the tank wasn't totally bolted in, so it seemed like the safest thing to do with all the sparks flying around We've already caught bits of insulation and rags that were inside it on fire just welding and grinding. I'm happy we pulled the tank!!
Nice looking chop, don't forget to thank your local harber freight for suppliing you with the all impressive chicago electric 4" grinder on sale for 14.99. Just kidding the coupe looks good.
Very nice job. 100 percent better. Wish we could have been there but had other plans the couldnt change . Cant wait to see it at the Round Up !
Sweet look...looks much better and the work looks top notch... Hope the pinched hand feels better soon... Its kewl to have a gal that will get into the trenches with ya huh
Man, finally.. Your ride is looking good El, for a minut there I thought you were gonna leave it bone stock, but that thing has come a ways since I saw it at Pistons and Paint 2 (I think it was) I don't remember, jeez I'm getting old... Al
Heck yeah! I've got more speed goodies that need to be put on it. I just hope it all comes together for the round up. I saw your one off front tires. Those look KILLER! THEM! uprising in the works!
I hear ya! That IS on the list of changes. I've got two dropped axles, but the car still has mechanical brakes. If I put one of the axles under there, I won't be able to use the front mechanical brakes, and I've got no time before RoundUp to completely modify the pedal set up to allow for a master cyl under the floor. I did put a good stock axle under there because the one that was on the car was a twizzler. Everything is not rusted together now though for when I swap them out. I've got all the rest of the hydrolic gear as well, and will be putting that along with a few leaves out of the rear spring on the list! I know.. whine whine! More like, TIME TIME TIME! How about putting and extra 8 hours in the day light savings plan, instead of just one!!
hahhhhaha... this turned into a gay "THEM!" party hahha... seirosuly though, the car is KILLER... drop axle, a few leaves out here and there, and i cant WAIT to see it! wish i could afford the ticket to texas this year!
