    I just bought a motor with the casting numbers 3932386 From what I found out it could be either of the 2 with a 4 bolt main any other way to narrow it down. Once I get the VIN what web site can I use to find out more?
    3932386....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
    3932386....327.....69....2
    3932386....350.....69....2 or 4
    It is a 4 bolt main that much I know..

  2. Check out the numbers on the block pad under the alternator. DZ is Z28 302 1969.The sequence of numbers will be part of the vin and the letters following that are the designation as to what it is from. Sometimes the number is on a pad near the oil filter.

    according to my books it a ....1968-1969, 327 (corvette, camaro, or other high performance applications) or it could be.... 1968-1976, 350 (truck and other high performance applications)

  5. This pic shows both the vin on the left and the engine designation on the right.Once you have the suffix there are many sites on the net that will break it down for you!

  8. Mortec says either `69 302 or `69 350 if it`s in fact a 4 bolt block.

    So it looks like so far this could be a good candidate for a decent street motor.. I hope to get more info as soon as I get the VIN.. The only thing is,it has later model heads, left facing tri-angle cast on them, but receipts showing 2.02 Valves put in them with some porting and polishing..

    Hey there Wild Turkey I did'nt notice it was you till now, were still working on that old Ford Truck CAb I got from you a while back.....

  18. If the motor has been gone over then it doesn,t really matter what it started out as.Early block would likely have flat top pistons though which gives better compression.The 4 bolt is a bonus.If the heads do have 2.02,s then with a good cam and intake it should work great!

    True True , I'm just trying to narrow it down as to what it actually is and is it worth what he is asking. I have not given him any cash yet so I just want to make sure it is what he says it is..I come from a Corvette background where everything has to do with the numbers, so I guess thats why I am interested in finding out the who what when and where's(old habits die hard).Yhea I'm not looking to try and pass it off like somthing it's not, just looking for a good solid base to start with. It has an Edelbrock Low Rise of some sorts and a Edelbrock Carb. The previous owner has the receipts of the work that was done..But thats all I know at this point, its 900 miles from me so its not like I can just pop around the corner to check it out thats also why I'm asking a lot of questions..

    1 = Chevrolet Car
    9 = 1969
    W = Willow Run MI assembly plant
    412148 = serial number of vehicle

    V = Flint Engine plant
    0115 = Jan 15th
    HA = Chevelle, Camaro, or Nova 300 hp 350 with 4bbl carb, 10.25:1 compression, manual trans

    Interesting that the casting numbers on the back don't include a matching casting date code..but they are hard to read! especially with the engine in the car.

    It may its just that the guy that has it is a buddy of my brother and he has no idea what to look for, He is in Penn. and I am in KY. He bought a Toyota Land Cruiser and this motor was in it and he is wanting to swap it out for a 4.3 V-6 and wants me to give him some cash for this one(was trying to have him just "DONATE" it to me)...Just trying to figure out what it is and what it is worth either to keep it or sell it...Thanks Ryan
