The infamous Balboa stadium, Josh or any others what era would you most like to go back to and see? I would like to go to the 20's and see the one man Millers, the boards, ok ok so I would want to drive them. Then I would like the late 40s through the early sixties, so if they ever invent a time machine thats where I will be.

The early to mid 60s will always be the pinnacle of oval track racing for me, for no other reason than that was the era I was first exposed to it. The growl of the offys and rumble of the chevys as the exposed drivers sawed at their steering wheels are indelibly etched in my mind.

It is the 1920s Board track and Indy era for me. I am a Miller-Offy guy. Although any racing before they ruined the looks of the cars with too much aero crap is great for me....When the Silver crown cars started going to blocky wedge hoods-GRRRR.

Roy,those color midget slides are GREAT!!!!!!!!

Well Roy... If we gotta pick a ten year span.. I gotta go with 54' to 64' That way I can see Vuky win one, hear an offy at full pitch, see the injected chevy come to dominate, and then see A.J. win the 500 in a Roadster for the last time... WITH THE SAME WHEEL THATS ON YOUR DAMN HOT ROD YOU DRIVE TODAY!!!

See,that last picture shows what USAC should have used as a NASCAR type Template for the Dirt cars-If it can`t fit the classic shape of a Watson or Meskowski or others of that style-it don`t run-LOL.

I`m always ready to see photos from that book- I don`t have that book yet,but I MUST get a copy.

  25. Can anyone explain the sound of a NOVI? Like a V-8 or like two slow loping Offies?

Go here: http://www.milleroffy.com/ click on photo sound gallery then go to videos and sound, at the bottom there is a very short sound clip of the Novi.

I think it is refered to as the "song of the novi", kinda screaming, howling, bellowing sound. You want to look around and see if the stands are still there...or something like that.

Seeing that picture is funnier than hell, people today would have a field day if they seen that. It reminds me of the time I was walking down the front stretch and ran into Sonny Bono spilling beer all over him, his goon's and the Indy State Police were ready to pictch me out, but he was real cool and said "look's like I'm to late to tell you to have a good time", he was right on that account....
