40's and 50's cars should have their hoods on, unless you're working on them...

I'll be using the 368 on other car than the "A" roadster and I want people to see the thing. Was wondering how a 42-46 coupe would look without a hood and a killer engine.

I don't know about that. I do like early '40s cars with no hood, when you run a big engine. The fender lines are low so you can see everything there, think '39-40 Ford and '40-41 Willys.

This is a quote form someone else on the HAMB "Just because you can unbolt it doesnt mean you should". Somethings just dont look good without!

I know, I will not keep it that way if it doesnt look good. It may be a 42' Ford coupe.

The paint job will be nice and smooth when it is finished.

BUT, 40s-50s-60s cars generally look just plain wrong without a hood, as in incomplete, looking to find one, latch came aloose and hood bent backward on the road, waiting to find one, and so on.

I think finding an alternative place for the radiator would change the looks dramatically..., its the rad that makes them look little odd.

    What do you think ?

Did you have that block sonic tested? I read once that if there is any core shift at all, a C block won't have enough meat on the thrust side in a stock bore to build a performance engine and even at best to never bore one past .030

On the hoodless look..well only the bumperless tri-5 has the look, all the rest would look better with a hood IMO.

Hapened to be a engine built at the request of a customer that did not pay in full. Ended up with the motor cheap. The machinist is one of those older guys retired that has nothing better to do than piddle. So the son keeps his dad busy with the balancing. Not fast but real thurough. Was told he did a lot of racing the salt when he was younger. Drove the car in a parade for 45 minutes at less than 5mph with no overheating. Now the down side is the 3 speed spool and 411 gears that keep me at 60 on the freeway. Never took it to the strip but know damn well its super fast in short bursts. Breaks the tires a little in all gears while getting on it. And really fucking loud. Pretty much sounds like a car sitting at idle in the staging lanes at the track more than most street cars do. I drive this thing with a dealer tag in it and use hand signals to turn and still never get pulled over. Just a lot of quick thumbs up from the cops. It also helps to do a lot of work for those guys too:)
