Features *OFFICIAL* Ford Unibody 61-63 Pict Thread

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SpnkyMcGee, Nov 29, 2007.

  1. Ok, obviously not very "official" but there is a great Chevy truck thread that is great inspiration so I thought I'd start a Ford one.

Since there is a lot of similarities of the body style through the late 60's we can include them as well.

I have done as many searches as I can think of to find pics and have found a couple of sweet ones but I'll leave it to you guys to post here.

I am also working on my 62 unibody and will post update pix soon...

    Here's what I'm starting with...

    The great strip down...

Now she's back together and running. Pic update to follow...

  2. There was a complete one at a local bodyshop recently and it appeared to be in fantastic condition tho it was obviously a rescued vehiicle. It appeared to be a 60 but i'd have to reference some photos to be sure. The truck had a wrap around rear window hich I'd never seen before but it's gotta be rare. The shop owner was arrested and sent up the river on drug charges and,one day, all his stuff, including the truck, was gone. I plan to contact the county to see what became of it. If I find it and it's possible, I'll post images.
Hate to see 'em slip away like that.

  3. Ok, I'll keep this going with a few pix that I've found. Some good, some bad, but direction all the same...

I came very close to owning one, but it was just to rough for me at the time.

Whenever I think I want an old pickup, I wage epic wars in my head over what I'd rather have... a 61-66 Chevy or a 61-63 Ford

  6. I got nothing negative to say about any of the other years. I picked this one up for a song with only a couple of problems and lots of surface rust. I look at it as kind of a blank slate. Probably not the "coolest" truck out there. But lots of opportunity. Hell, look what ELpolacko did with his...

Right now it's got the original 223 Sixer in it. She'll probably ride with that for a while with minor ongoing performance mods. Definitely screams to be lowered. How and how much are an ongoing debate in my head. She's gotta get me through the winter cuz riding the Harley's kinda suck when it's icy and 12 degrees...

    hellz yeah...drive it!

...nuttin' against early '60s F100s. would love a unibody short bed.

  8. How difficult was the lowering process? I'd like to do mine next summer but I can't afford bags and I want to keep at least some of the riding comfort.

  9. Saw this one at the Blessing last year,

Here's one I did for a friend last year. Basically stock '62 shorty with a 390/C6 and some brake upgrades. Neat truck, and I never thought the ride and handling was a problem with the beam axle.

Yes gents........ole green truck had the straight axle, which I suspect, was a 4" dropped unit - it was already on the ground - with reverse eye springs/de-arched & the rear had a flip kit & less springs. It handled very well bar the non p.s. stock box. It ran 295x50x15's in the rear & 245x70x15 in da front.

It was a gass to drive & had plenty of power to spare.....the bigger tires liked to grab the ruts but al & all I miss it...

Man, once again a Ford body style matted in favor of something else.

Galaxies from '62-'65, Falcons/Comets from '63-'65, Starliners, Unibody Trucks and any FoMoCo wagon-full size or smaller- from '60-'65.

    Love me a Ford anytime.

Looks like some folks don't know what a '61-'63 UNIBODY is!
Some pretty sharp tucks in this thread, thanks for the pictures.

I have 2 unibodys 1-'61 LB and a 62 Shorty. I ordered up a set of 4 " drop monoleafs front and back for mine. And I plan a rear axle flip and c-notch. I may order a 3" dropped beam for the front if it isnt low enough. I'll know that when I get the motor and tranny in.. Speedway has a 3" dropped beam.

I'll post some pics when I take time to figure out how to..
