MONSTER TECH II...Or how to sharpen your Crayolas like Big Daddy.

So...I finished inking the Back page (left side) (new layer to its own) and added a chunky speckeled background.The B/G layer is place under both left and right images.....
Remember..as you go..always save.

Remember my wee flagmen in front of the Chevy II approaching certain death?
I had to git rid of him.... needed the area for type.....since he was on his own layer....I just turn him off.

SO...I take all 3 layers....there all set on default..highlight them ALL and collaspe them into one layer.
I then set the layer to multiply.
I then renamed the document and save.
I rename the one melded layer and call it"Line"
I will ALWAYS keep this layer up top above all else for the time being.

I then take one of my many custom airbrushes (this one is a severe splatter brush and I lay down a series of cool tones.This can be done in a series of layers and you could control the opacitys....I am lazy...I did it on 1 layer(under my line layer(

I then pick a nice chester the molester rain slicker yella.....and lay some value down

Taking my marker tool and a pastel tool...I start to build some shadow areas.....

I continue on and grab some yeechee slime green,,,,again using various tools in Painter....markers,pastels,camel brushes, etc,etc
I start to block out the whole character.....

In this image...I want to create a sandwich board....rotten old wood...that our lil goofball is hiding underneath his raincoat.
For this I create a layer and color up the wood feel.For the cheep and cheerful wood grain......I create a new layer on TOP of my Black line layer....draw and color the grain and erase around the edges to clean it up.
On my original color layer..I rough in the parts in his coat pockets.

Ok...I create yet another layer above my line and color layers.... this one I name hi-lights.I then come in and add some details...hair....viens,drool,etc,etc.
It is important not to get carried away on this layer..... at least not yet.

 

I then move onto the front cover.. new layer(colorlayer #2) and start to throw down some color for the B/G
remember....don't worry about overlap...things can be erased or covered while your work is on layers.....

Coloring our main yahoo.....
I wanted him carring an axe..... but I got nixed for being too violent..(huh?)

Spraying the chrome.....I selected another custom airbrush..with very fine manners and lightly freehand it in...along with some reflected horizon...

everyone seems to go harsh on chrome.

less is more.

 

At this piont I grabbed the Bezzia tool and selected the car body....make the selecton and hide it(command H)....I then brushed in different values of red to achieve the body styling.....

I deslected and grabbed a purple and worked on the big ol tires.....
then the flaming headers.......

 

Athis point I created in succession a series of layers over the black line layers and used them for highlights....the body,monster,chrome,etc etc.
I saved the document..and headed over to photoshop where I applied all the hi-res logos and type.
I always save a version of each document just in case I get a corrupt file.....very rarely happens...but ya never know.

.....and VIOLA!.....READY FOR CLIENT APPROVAL!

I will go back and edit my grammical errors....

 

Mark-The reason I change the layer to multiply is so the color underneath can be seen.....sometimes when I ink....I use white instead of an eraser.....and when I go to color under the line layer.. the white on it would show up.Changing the layer to multiply(line layer only)... elimantes that.
And when flat.....your still all good.

Drewfus-....The Font used was "Anderson Stingray"....just a free font I have grabbed thru the web.

k-member-As I have said... this juat another tool.And yea... in the working world of my proffesion.... it does save an immense amount of time.
Most of todays clients(production people) would not have a clue if I gave them a traditional piece of art
Yes..changes are very easy than a traditional piece of work.
there are pros and cons to both and I enjoy both.
