man if i only had this one back i'd give it to ya . had an 85 escort that was givin to me as it wouldnt run , simple fix , plugged fuel filter . well any way me an the lil bro had a few to many german lagers one night while tryin' to get either my 65 falcon ranchero or his 69 427 caprice runnin' for an upcoming cruise ...welll...... we painted the escort bright pink cut a burn barrel in half and painted them like halves of an everready battery , put a set of tractor lights on it painted like eyeballs, and had our grandmother whip up some big pink furry rabbit ears to go on the roof . it was obnoxious , loud , goofy , and legal , plates and all . my neighbours hated this thing so i made sure to park it in plain sight to piss 'em all off . it was good for visits from the secretary of state police for awhile as i never drove it and i covered the plates up with some pink fur so everyone thought it was a non op p.o.s. unfortuneately i scrapped it to make room for another race car . give you any ideas though ? it's fun to piss people off and get 'em going every once in a while .

Yes, it wasn't tagged the first time around, but he sure as hell was going to tow it this time around, even with all the proper paperwork. He told me and my neighbor that he didn't care if everything else was legal, as long as it is considered "non-operable" he was going to have it towed.

What's funny is I have looked up the code cited, and it doesn't really define what an "abandoned vehicle" actually is, but more about cars that are on the side of the road or on someone's elses property, and what to do once a vehicle has been considered abandoned.

He let it lapse and the car was towed. Then he paid the tow bill, got tags, etc. and got a NEW notice that it was going to be towed again (even though it was now compliant with the tags).
So again, "It was registered and tagged, and I was restoring the engine, when this government functionary came onto my property and towed a vehicle that was clearly not abandonded. It was merely parked outside, on my property, for an extended period of time--and there are no laws specifically forbidding having a licensed and registered vehicle sit on your property for an extended period of time."

Yep, my mistake. I missed the part about getting it tagged when he paid the tow bill.

It wouldn't be a long term thing, settle down. I mentioned it to my neighbor and he thought it was great. Besides, the old neighbor was a septic tank and port-a-potty service, so an old car is pretty tame in comparison to about 20 crappers sitting in the backyard. It's not exactly Beverly Hills here.

With Monsterflake talkin about the christmas party got me thinkin. Just get a friendly dog like Bills shop dog T-Bag. Chain that mother to the car and , I believe no one will tow that thing. Let alone put a ticket on it.
But I really think Brad54 has the best idea on how to handle this. Fire back if needed saying that the cannon in front of the VFW is un licensed eye sore. And all the cars at the used car dealership are unlicensed non moving cars. And what ever you see around your place that "you just dont like". That is pretty much how silly it is for them to pick on your car. Hell the big rock in front of City Hall next to the flag pole, dont you think that is a eyesore. It is all just opinions. Claim to be gay and say that you are being descimataded (sic) against. Fuck with them back. Get a lawyer that is willing to stand up against these fucks. Drive around and take pics of every goverment building that has anything wrong with it. Just because this ass hole has a badge or some sort of paper work , doesnt make him right. He is probably just some poor fuck that has a problem because he lost his virginity in a car like that to his father.

The offending vehicle. Note my former neighbor, the port-a-pottys. Like I said, I live in the Ritz. Yeah, I signed the lease after checking the place out while dark.

  15. Hell, if you put the hood back on it, how the hell do they know it's a non-op?

I still say: Buy running well-used demo derby car. Go to the stores and get a bunch of leftover mis-mixed housepaint = Instant clown car. And that's only if it's not painted that way already. Shouldn't be too expensive that way. One trailer taillight kit and a couple fog lights or Harbor Frieght headlights and you can even drive it at night.

After you get the demolition car, cut the exhaust pipe off, fill it up with gas, then paint it, roll the windows up, put a brick on the accelerator, and lock the doors with the engine running. Then put some earplugs in, crack open a beer, and wait for the county guy to come over and try to figure out what do with with the thing.

It's just a fantasy, I've had this kind of trouble too.

Shit... that won't work around here. A county sheriff just shot and killed a dog that was chained up in a guy's fenced back yard while trying to serve a warrant. The owners of the dog took the officer to court and the sheriff said that the dog was really aggressive and was trying to bite him even though it was on a chain and could not reach him. What was really messed up in the sheriff's office had an outdated address for the warrant and the guy no longer lived at that address, so they really had no business being on the property. The officer was found not at fault.

Instead of the clown car why not buy a big ol' 70's Lincoln or something similar and build the ultimate 'pimp-mobile' out of it. Paint it bright pink with house paint, put phoney side pipes on it,cheap zebra striped cloth over the seats, feather boas everywhere etc, then put the dummies in it and drive it everywhere! ,

    Cheers, Glen.

    1. Get an old van, preferably without windows.
    2. Install plastic heart shaped windows in back.
    3. Paint white if not white already.
    4. Paint large red arrow on side of van
    5. Underneath arrow, paint "massage"
    6. Point van at offended neighbor's domicile

Or maybe anoint the van with an "artistic mural" entitled "Dirty Sanchez".

We had a former mayor decide (while he was in office) we needed a 'anti clunker law' and got it through without any opportunity for public comment, real closed door back room kinda stuff. One of the first cars they applied it to was a 4 porthole Buick. The original owner had it, IN HIS DRIVEWAY, he let the reg lapse because his eyesight got so bad that he couldn't get a driver's license any more. So the Ordinance passed, no warning, no public notification, nothing. The tow company that was contracted for the job towed it, AND CRUSHED IT, the same day No impound, no opportunity to get tags on it, nada. It wasn't a clunker either, the old guy that had it would start it once a week, kept the oil changed in it, and washed the thing, by hand, every week, even in the winter.

Fortunately, that got enough press the law was repealed, but what utter bullshit. Not only to be able to come onto private land, but no notice, no chance to get it registered? WTF:mad:

What I haven't seen on this post is that actions such as these are UNCONSTITUTIONAL. This is your LEGAL TITLED PROPERTY. They have no right to dictate taste in transportation to you or ANY CITIZEN in this country. Ordinance my ass!! If a city, state, or county can pass UNCONSTUTIONAL laws or rules what's next? Legal executions whenever they see fit? The problem lies within ALL OF US. Why the general population just sits back and says "...what can I do..." I'll never know. This is how we ended up in the shit that we call our daily lives lately. The other problem is how "busy" we all must be to keep up with extortions and unrealistic costs that our utilities, fuel supplies, and municipalities have placed on all of us. Fuck with me and I'd set it all aside to fight for what I've legally aquired. They are simply wrong in every possible way and continue these actions because by and large they remain UNCHALLENGENED. We live in a democracy. If they get to take your property from you because of someone elses opinions then you have a right to have every camper, golf club, bowling ball, fishing boat, ORV, and maybe even red roses removed from the entire county. I say that since we plead our case for a 36 Buick just that way in Allen Park, MI years ago. We won.

    BTDT with a "city manager"

They get a burr up where they can't scratch and someone else gets grief.

    Pimpmobile sounds nice

Massage van has possibilities -- name it after the jerk, install an electric motor and eccentric weight to make back end go up and down in "suggestive' manner

Or a plain ol' pickup -- with pile of manure (hog or chicken is best) and a dead skunk (or two) "composting" in the back:rolleyes:

And then call the tv stations -- they love "little guy gets even" stories.

By the way -- did you carefully check the car for damages from the towing? Can't be too careful with "vintage" vehicles:rolleyes:

Okay, I re read my previous post and I would like to apologize to all for my tirade.

I started out wanting to make the point that you probably want the law changed, or at least clarified. I think it unconscionable what they did (in light of how it was done), but I can not comprehend how a licensed, registered vehicle on private land can fall under any 'abandoned vehicle' statute.

I am unsure what exact county you are in, but if you are in Vigo county, you might try the Ombudsman (on the web site they call it 'Office of Regulatory Ombudsman') 800-280-0584. I don't know how your county is set up, but here when we get a Municipal or State official that is blatantly screwing up (in their dealings with an individual), we call the Ombudsman, that's what they're for. I only know 3 people that have had to do this, all 3 got satisfaction. Oh and all 3 had problems with someone trying to 'creatively' interpret the laws / codes as they applied in that case.

    I hope that helps.

If you're gonna get a horrible car and get it legal, don't park it in your yard. Find out where the city official lives and park it in front of his house every night.

I had the same issue where I'm at. Cars didn't have inspection stickers and the City threatened to fine me $1,000 per day per vehicle until I removed them from my property.

I was ready to do the same shit you're considering. Then I started reading the City Codes and realized how many other things I could get popped for if the inspectors really wanted to get pissy. We have codes for everything. It's crazy. City Council clearly feels the need to protect us from the evils of peeling paint, etc (nevermind the weekly shootings). I ended up just working with the inspector and made things disappear for a few weeks. Wasn't worth starting a war over in the end.
