  1. Icon? :dunno:
I can't see clones of the 1st gen on "Rodders Journal" in 20 years.
Only time will tell, I guess.

I'd paint it, but loose the cheeseball Iron Crosses. Like sculls there so Rat Rod. IMHO

He is Powder Coating and painting like many of " Todays " street rodders. How Traditional is that ? I only ask what HAMBERS opinion is about this since many here feel firm on there " has to be Traditional all the time " outlook

"Whatever he chooses, it's done by now" - And I thought that was LIVE televsion, who knew :)

  8. I personally like the hell out of powder coat. I can't wait to see the end result. Just don't let that chick work on it any more. I think it would be cool if he were to turn Dave loose on it.

  9. Wow, that was a waste of time.

    I agree.

I really can't stand the wheels currently on the truck. Anything else (besides billet) would look better.

    Face it. He's selling out.

Just like Jessie James and just like Body. He's older than he was when he originally built the car and his priorities have changed. And rightly so. Now he wants to be successful on television and if that means painting his car for ratings..he's going to do it. I'm not judging him at all. He seems like a really nice guy and a very talented builder. However, the reason he's insisting on painting the truck, not building a new one is for show ratings. I give him credit for sacrificing whatever it takes to be successful. That's determination.

It's the same reason that chick is on there instead of the probably thousands of better quailfied females they could have chosen. That's what's been most disappointing for me. They had auditions and took the bottom two girs and top 3 guys.

YES! Black or dark blue. Remember the ARDUN powered '32 Jimmy built for Kirk White on an earlier show? Jimmy is a good detail guy and that truck will really pop when it is in paint. Observation: If So-Cal is building chassis shouldn't that truck chassis have been on a table with an ongowing check to show the viewer it's square?

How about crazed black laquer? It would be great if it could get those weird shinny mirror like spots on the top edges of stuff too.

  15. ha,ha then this thread should be dead now. But i will add one thing i sure hope that chick gets kicked the fuck out to the curb. No matter where you work you dont act like that. No work ethic at all just like most of her generation.

    AMEN.

Think it would be easy to find talented people to "work" in what should be a dream job for any gearhead, a hot rod shop? Wrong. These kids today baffle me. Sure there some that shine... but on the whole... worthless. I'd love for some 22 year old to come into the shop and prove me wrong...

    LOL!

At first I didn't like the idea of paint, until I heard his reason. I would get pretty sick of the ratrod description too.

You can't blame the guy for wanting to put some separation between his sweet ride and all the cobbled-together ratrods these ass-pilots are building nowadays....

  18. Paint it. Hot rodding's about evolution. Better power, better style, etc. If the people before us just left the cars alone, there wouldn't be Hot Rods. They changed the stock cars and made Hot Rods, Customs, Race Cars, etc. If you're wanting more speed, you build a bigger motor. If you want a new look..........
It's time to step it up to another level. My 2 cents.

Im pretty sure he was cutting the cowl vent out.

As far as painting the truck black I think it will look way better then it was in bare metal.

  20. Paint... paint is so... last week. Here's the spyshot I was able to find using the "i-n-t-e-r-n-e-t" of his finished product. Cool 'eh?:D

  21. I don't care if he paints it titty pink, fills it with explosives, and blows up the last surviving Bob's Big Boy.

    Well put Groucho!
That's one of the reasons I don't care for today's "Rat Rod" movement. Flame me for using the term, but there is a huge difference between a ratrod and a traditional rod. I like Groucho's theory about Hot rods evolving. Ratrods have evolved into who can build the lowest, most unfinished piece of driveable shit.
Traditional rods keep evolving into nicer more finished pieces. Look at the car from Hollywood Hot Rods in this months R&C...Traditional rodding at its peak!
I have liked Jimmy's truck from the beginning, and it will be all the nicer finish painted if thats the route he chooses. It's the EVOLUTION of a traditional car to be finished. If his dream is to see it finished, I hope he does. No matter how much of an "Icon" it has become in bare metal.

All true. Here's a tip: look for farm or ranch kids that have moved to the city. They still have great work ethics. All the rural Montana kids my age I know that have moved to Cali or Las Vegas really stand out down there, because they work their asses off, that's how they're raised on the ranch. Employers love them.

Yep, he did his truck his way. But, it is a little interesting how he kept saying Sarah (Sassy) does not hear everything he says to her. Then he sits in a meeting with Pete about changing the truck and he does the same thing to Pete. Pete had a very valid point about not changing certain cars/trucks looks. Sassy still has a lot of learning to do in that she will have to get along with others ("I don't care about people") on some level. Best to all of them, and you.

    While we're at it;
That '55 in two lane blacktop should be painted, primer is passe'
The Cal Kid's flames are pretty dated looking- They whould be Tribal flames.
THX1138 is Yellow. That's come and gone a few times. Maybe Teal and Salmon would be ahead of the curve.

Listen to Pete: Leave it alone.

If he wants to paint it, then he should. It's none of our business and a waste of space here.

While my car means nothing in the grand scheme of hot rods, I get the same thing about painting. Dad always wanted it painted and nice. So that was my intent someday. Yet I hear all the time, "then it's just another '36 Ford" and "never ever paint this car".

I haven't seen the show yet (have it on TIVO), so I am super interested to hear Jimmy's thoughts...

Paint it if you want. It doesn't matter to me. I don't know if I heard him right last night though. I thought he said he was only getting 250 hp from that new motor. I think I'm mistaken.
