Some Pics of the Drag Waye. Built by Clive Waye. Dave Lecocq Drag Raced it in England. Very cool and unusual... Does anybody have more Info on it?
some info here http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/06/27/dragwaye-1300cc-vw-powered-motorcycle-dragster/
I love drag bikes..... Twin BSA's.....and THREE Kawie triple's...2-strokes....just imagine the SOUND! I know these aren't car engine powered but still.....WILD....
Good lordy lordy, Alex, where do you get this stuff? The rusty red framed bike(?) on the lakes(?) is stupendous!
Im still trying to figure out how that thing is steered. I see cables running to the front end but how does the front tire turn?
I was looking at that too... Best I can come up with is that the 4 Bars run foreward in to a Bracket that has a Swivel mounted to the inside. And the Cable pulls the Swivel over, taking that side of the Spindle with it. While the opposite happens on the other side of the Wheel. I could be totally wrong, but that seems like a logical way of doing it... Edit. Or, if the spindle has a thrust washer ( Bearing ) on it at an angle ( balony cut ), it would have the end inline with the spindle ( straight ), and offset if you twist it ( corner ) That way you could make both sides go the opposite way, without being able to deflect in the straight position. On second thought, thats how I would try it...
pretty shure the tripple norton ran on fuel, seen it run i think it was at atco 90 or 91 for exibition. the guy that had it was badly burned scars on face and hands real nice guy ,from what i heard it was on that bike he took the spill.
I'm surprised no one has posted pics of our own El Polakos "Six Pack" Corvair powered Indian from the 60s one wild ass street bike!I have saved a copy of the Hot Rod article for all these years but its packed in storage now
............ I give up! I can't figure out the steering on the Drag Waye either. Maybe it's just "lean-steer"?
I think the El Polako that owned the Boneshaker was Norm Graboski, but I could be wrong. Another vote for Widowmaker series as the baddest Car Engined Drag Bikes ever built.
That's Fred Vosk's bike. He's a pretty interesting dude. Here's his site www.bikesters.com Take the time to look at the whole site. Like I said, an interesting cat. Check out the dragster build up series too.
Has anyone ever talked to E.J.? He was at York US 30 Reunion a few years ago promoting his book and videos. Guess it was more of listening to him rather then talking to him. When I walked away my face hurt from laughing. He really is certifiable.
Dragwaye is now up and running again. It took a while (too long) but we've been running it occasionally now for a couple of years. Scott, Clive Waye's son has allowed us to demo the bike after we rebuilt it. If anyone knows where Clive's diary on the bike may be, I'd love to know, we've been working blind and it would stop us going up a few blind alleys if we could work from his notes. One of the problems we have now is that Santa Pod is prepped up and super sticky, not helpful for a single speed 12 foot bike with me perched behind the back wheel. Some of the airfield courses are better, but some are a little short on braking these days, which again is an issue; it doen't help that I'm about 2 stone heavier than Dave either. We've done a total of about a dozen runs now, and we've run an 11.2 at a leisurely 94mph as a full pass would have put me into the field at the end! With a poor start at Santa Pod due to the excess of grip we ran 11.5 at 127mph. If we can combine the two a decent mid 10 is about what we are looking for......after all its a 50 year old setup
Thank you for the updates Terry. BTW, I have a pretty good idea of how the steering works ( hubcentric ), but could you post a couple of detail pics of that?
