DUDE you guys are fuckin' Hilarrious and Bad ass!!!!!...Ken and it was M O R E than worth my while!!!!
I was at the race today... and started back in at engineering my steering system as soon as I got home. Wow... the end of that video is a little creepy, huh?
I like the series so far, but I do have one suggestion. I'd like to see some more continuity so the viewer can follow the race from beginning to end. Stylistically, I love it but this one seems to be disjointed and hodge-podge. You guys look like you're having so much fun, it'd be nice to hear from the the drivers about strategies, their cars, the thrill it must be to race these.
It's way too chaotic for us to really address those issues during the race. Today we had to carry our cars over a fence (was supposed to be unlocked) deal with angry Burbankians (f that place!) cops and park rangers, upset dogs, and still make it to the bottom in one piece. Also, This soapbox thing is not really about racing or winning, it's about having fun. I don't think there is much strategy, hang on, don't hit your brakes or you lose. I like to think I'm a Samurai: they went into battle thinking they were already dead. It helps. Our editor/video monkey likes our cartoonish ways. Thus we don't get to say much, it's ok. I think he tries to mock real race events to some degree, and I think he does a good job. Any tech questions I'd be glad to answer however, so shoot away if you're interested. Race on.
This is my stratagy when racing. Hold on, try to pass, try not to hit the brakes. You hit the brakes you lose speed. You lose speed, well you know. It is a blast. Rev106 actually didnt flip his car this time out.
Was that The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies playing near the end? Seemed fitting while looking at that pink contraption flying down the hill. And I loved that scene near the end with that tire bouncing down the hill.. Great photography...and those things actually have brakes?
That looks like a blast! I think the editor/video guy watched the early Bones Brigade videos a lot too; it shines through in these videos.
Hey 5Wbomber, you get a race going and I'll try building one and coming down, we've got some great hill here in Pacific Grove too, but LOTS of bored cops . I would come down there for some ableskever (spelling?) & racing.....Bring on the Santa Ynez Valley gravity 500.....
nothing better than sitting down monday morning and getting you day going with a litlle SFVISBF.thanks again
So, now they know what days you meet, and you've shown them most of your courses. How long before I see breaking news on CNN about the big Outlaw Soapbox Derby Bust? I'm loving the footage and would love ot join you guys. I'm just thinking you might be giving up too much info. Party on.
We don't meet at the courses, we meet at a neutral location. At some point it could reach critical mass and fall apart, not there yet, we'll let you know when we are.
