Lookin to Relocate to California....What is the best areas?

I live on Californias cental coast.....Its the 6th most expensive place to live in the nation but its HOME. I will never leave. You can not beat the weather with our mild winters and mild summers.

 

Go half way and move to Texas. We have plenty od space out here.

 

My girlfriends from Long Beach and she lives in Manhatten now which is cheaper im not sure but I would like to find a place to park my 1934 chevy truck in or outside because I do not think the 17inch 6 lug spokes would look good or fit on a bling bling honda so I think im safe.. Im also looking for somone who could help me with my stovebolt the balancer leaks even after a new seal and I put a sleave on it in Vegas last year and it still doznt help..

I will be out for the tattoo and iron fest. in June if anyone could help or has info that would be great..

Fuck these California haters. The state is huge - pretty well like a country unto ourselves, and ANY way of thinking can find a home here. I live in Oakland, which is great, but $750k for a 2-bedroom is real tough for most folks.

If you do not have to be next to a big city, the central coast (Paso Robles, San Luis Obsio, Santa Maria, Pismo beach et cetera) is pretty amazing. Gorgeous, awesome weather, motorhead friendly, I could go on. The only real negative is that commerce is somewhat limited by slow-growth policies and the magnetic attraction of Los Angeles. But in a lot of ways that area is like Los Angeles was before it got screwed up (Go back 100 years or so)

I live on the Central Coast also. Its alright. I wouldnt mind living in Paso or Redding. Santa Rosa is cool. I cnt stand Southern LA with the exception of SD. Pacific Beach is the HEAT!

 

Well if you can afford it Downey has the best neighbor hood and schools and not only that the cops there don't fuck around they handle there shit.

 

The previous post says it all. Come out and take a look FIRST,then decide.

If you can afford to do it (and thats an important question) the time to do it is now as real estate is down .

Next, figure out if you want Beach,City,Mountains,Desert,etc. obviously, the prices will differ from location to location.

Keep in mind that anything in or near a major city is considerably more.

I live in Auburn, CA. It is in the foothills of Sacramento. Very nice place to live. Lot's of houses with a bit of land (for the cars) for a decent price (in California). Many lakes, rivers, parks, schools, local car shows, speedway motorcycle haven and tons of activities for the kiddies. Its about 25 min from Sacramento, 1 1/2 hours from San Francisco, 1 hour away from Tahoe. Great summer weather (bout 10 degrees cooler than Sacramento) and decent winters (nothing compared to Maine)!!! People are friendly and don't bother you too much. Don't move to a concrete jungle!!!

 

My house is for sale now. Three car garage with RV parking. PM me. I'll also get you into the Village Idiots on Tues. night. I have 6 cars myself and looking for another. You'll be my neighbor, I'm buying a house four houses away.

I live in Antelope California (neighbor to Sacramento). We are in the early stages of moving. I am looking to the East up highway 80 towards Auburn.....maybe Loomis or Penryn.

For you California haters......I'm thinking you only know your armpit part of the State. I would choose living in the the Northern California foothills over any place I have ever visited! Pretty much anywhere along the Highway 49 corridor from Grass Valley area to Sonora. ......lots of room, relitively few people, and excellent weather.

...but what do I know.

I think sonoma looks like a nice place to live. I live in Benicia which was voted one of the best places to live in the bay area in some big high fallutin magazine. Santa Rosa looks pretty nice too. Bay area is great...less attitude than So Cal...pretty laid back up here. Weather is nice but it does rain in the winter and spring. been in the 70's and 80's this week.

 

For the haters, I could take you blindfolded to places in L.A. or Orange co. and you'd think you where in Heaven. There's places that do not make headlines that are killer. Bring bags of money though. Also, Hot Rodding started in So. Cal., you can't take that away.

 

Exactly. I'm within minutes of some of the best restaurants in the world, gorgeous parkland, any number of motorhead activities, great weather, you name it. If you couldn't hear the faint roar of the freeway in the distance, you could easily think you were in the English countryside on a warm day. Most haters are buying into an image that they've picked up from the media, discussion forums, and other such "reliable" sources

Ditto what other guys have said about Sacramento and the Sierra foothills. I prefer moister environments, so the coast is preferable, but The foothills are grade A primo in many ways.

 

I live in Cobb, in the mountains (coastal range) above Napa Valley. It's rural, remote, and very beautiful. The weather here's not as nice as the coast (about 40 miles inland) but it's much, much more afordable w/ lots of houses in the $300K range. The best part is I am 1 hour from Santa Rosa, 1 hour 20 mins from Napa (the city), and am only 2 hours (traffic permitting) from S.F. ,Oakland, or Sacramento so I can catch all of the "big city" car shows, concerts, etc. but feel like I'm totally in the country! My wife would like to move to a bigger city but I fairly content where I am. Almost everything is more expensive here (i.e. gas, groceries, resturaunts) though, except for wine, it's cheap here! Good Luck but the seafood sucks compared to Maine, your Lobsta rules!

 

Live in Sac, got a 1/4 acre with enough room in the back yard for 10 or 12 cars, not to far from the 50 corridor, I think it's pretty nice.

I agree with the guys about the foothills, Auburn off 80 is nice. Cameron Park and El Dorado Hills off 50 too. I have a buddy sittin on 2 or 3 acres in the Rescue area and he loves it.

Lived in SoCal all my life. Love it here. Northern Cal is beautiful too,Grass Valley area. If my wife would move away from her sister,i'd move up there. Until then...i'll just have to enjoy the beach,mountains and the coast! Always something car related to do on the weekends. Can't beat that.

 

Yea the central coast area would be the ultimate place to live in my opinion. It's absolutly beautiful and the weather is amazing. The cost of living is insane though. I hope to live there one day if possible. Dont come to the San Joaquin Valley. Its not that great here. It gets uncomfortable in the summer. The air here is nasty too. Good luck

 

I like the Tehachapi area, east is high desert, west is San Joaquin Valley, elevation about 4000' close to San Andreas Fault if you like earthquakes. Not big city and has rural and community housing.

 

I'm kinda suprised nobody has mentioned true Northern California. I grew up in Eureka, and now live just south of there. It is the most temperate climate you will find and has it all. I can be in the mountains or on the beach within an hour of each other. It is far far everywhere, which I think is a perk. Santa Rosa is only 3 hours away.

 

good luck getting those cars registered and street legal in CA if they've been hopped or modified. from what I read on this board it seems like a state of Automobile over-legislation. damn socialist Berkeley hippies took over the frigging government while everyone was in the garage wrench'in! Why dont u consider a move here to Jerzy? we dont bite.......hard.

 

WOW, sounds like when I visit CA next week I'm not going to want to leave.

 

Even in a electronic world I imagine that you will need to do some face to face work with clients. So, fairly easy access to an airport, etc would be something to keep in mind. Orange County and LAX are really tough to get in and out of. In SoCal look at Ontario or Long Beach airports as alternatives. Up Noth SF Airport is another tough one to use, but Oakland and Sacramento are possible alternatives. As others have said, look to the outskirts of big cities for a little more room.

 

To take back a little of what I said before, there are nice places up north. My relatives are up there and it is nice. For now.
I cannot afford it, however.

Eventually the overcrowding in the south will move up. There are just too many people down here. I was born and raised in so cal, and it has changed almost into another country.

My dog shit equation applies more to the gov't in cali, and as a business owner, I am getting F'd around by every agency known to man, while many more run the same type of business illegally with no repercussions.

They have the people to collect the fees from the legal businesses, but dont have the staff to go after the illegal ones.

I know, dont let the door hit me in the ass when I leave..
I will be leaving my family, friends, business contacts, etc,
but I need to do whats better for my kids and theirs.

I see little to no change for the better happening in California.

Anyone up in the Lake Hughes-Elizabeth Lake area? I've been watching the weather and it looks pretty good so far but summer could be a bit hot since its close to Lancaster. Bare land prices to build don't seem too insane by California standards. Out in the boonies but not that far to LA for the fun stuff to do. What do you think?

 

You know nothing about Cali and registering cars. This is the Mecca of hot rodding and it's easy to register just about anything.

It is nice up there, a small community tucked up into the mountains. If you have to commute to Los Angeles, or anywhere "down below" as it is known up here, you better have a road rally car to take those canyon roads at 70+.

The commute is insane. If you can work in Lancaster/ Palmdale, you are opposite the flow of traffic, hundreds of thousands are going the other way.

It is nice now, but the developers are moving that way. they have approved projects for thousands of homes close to that area.
There are a few ways in and out of there. It is not as hot as the desert floor, but rains more and the snow will shut it down for the morning when that happens. Usually some every year.

 

Eventually the overcrowding in the south will move north? Where the hell have you been? Thats been goin on for a LONG time! Everyone gets tired of the south, they move to the bay. Everyone from the bay, moves north to Redding, everyone from redding gets sick and tired of the people from the bay overpopulating and raising houses so they move to southern Oregon or Idaho. Its just the way it is...
