  1. Hey California guys, what is the best area to relocate?...I have two kids, 6 and 4 and six cars to house.....oh yea.....My wife and I are Headhunters for a living, so we can pretty much set up shop anywhere......we would like to get to a warmer climate...Northern Maine winters are tough at 40 below....How is it to register traditional rods etc. in your state? Thanks for your input....John

I was checkin' out this site for car guy homes:

Hey wickedjohn, I Live in and Love Long Beach, I think it's a great city, it's close to Orange County and LA County, but finding some place to park 6 Cars can be a Little rough !
    Keep us posted !

As headhunters, I'd try to get close to the silicone valley. (san jose)
But that's where the prices are the worst.
    Inland is hotter and cheaper.
A place to house 6 cars is harder to find in the urban areas. You may be better of in a farm area, since you can perform most of your tasks with a computer and a phone.
PM me if you'd like, I'll answer any questions you have.

Coastal areas are great for weather but housing prices are high. Inland home prices are more reasonable. Car culture is great everywhere - came from Mich in 72 and never left Ca except to visit. If you can afford a million dollar house, Mountain View is the best weather I've ever experienced!! Registering old cars has never been a problem unless you get into kit cars.

I hope your rich....it cost's me a ton of money to garage my two cars
I live in Orange County, the only house I could afford to buy only has room for one car and then street parking.....Good Luck but as Rob said Long Beach is good and central if your looking to move to SoCal.

If you want a nice place to live come to Temecula! its right between San deigo and L.A it has awesome schools and its not a huge city like the O.C or L.A so you have parking and tons of things to do. You can either live in a track home or buy some land out in the wine country. come visit you will love it. If you have any questions P.m me ive lived here my whole life

Fresno's no walk in the park either. Also, known as the armpit of California.

I've lived in the valley my whole life, and aside from being 2 hours from Yosemite and 2 hours from the beach, i've got NOTHING nice to say about it, lol. If i could afford it, i'd live on the central coast, between pismo and santa cruz, but it's not cheap, check that link to give you a loose idea as to how much.

  14. I've lived in the North, the South, andmostly all over but the Central Coast is the best climate and prices I've found. Now I live by my grandkids in West Virginia, but I like it here to. Take care, Rags

The foothills of Northern California are still somewhat reasonable for housing prices but will still be a shock compared to Main. Personally I love this area because I can choose from unlimited activities around here: high mountains, lotsa lakes, rivers, the delta waterways, losta motocross tracks and mountain bike trails, the ocean - pretty much anything & it's all within a short drive.

SoCal is too much of a zoo for me - anytime I go down there, I can't wait to leave.

Sacramento is turning into a mini LA nowadays though, too damn many people and everywhere you go there is a brand new subdivision, but I guess that would be fertile fields for a head hunter.

The foothills are way mellower lifestyle. I lived most of my life in the hills, but had to move down to Sac to be closer to my client base.

P.s I used to live in Main also. Fuck that was cold!

Check well before you settle in a neighborhood. Many Ca cities in metro areas don't allow you to do anything with cars at home - just park them inside and no working on them. In the town we're in - Costa Mesa / Newport Beach - they would never ever let you build a 6 car garage, you can't park your stuff in your driveway, and you can't work on your stuff at home. Most CCR communities are even worse with restrictions.

We have an industrial building (they're even trying to limit what we can do here now) 2500 sq ft - but the going rate to rent such a thing in Orange County would be a dollar/ft and up.

But there is unlimited car stuff to do in the greater LA/OC area.

  17. If it were me, I'd stay as far from L.A. as possible.

  23. Comparing places in California is like comparing different piles of dog shit. Some are bigger than others, they have different things stuck in them, but they all stink.

If you must, with all those cars, as far away from major metro locations is best. I can tell you in Los Angeles county, you will have problems.
Also check on the schools in your area. The majority of schools around here are horrible, and alot of the kids don't speak English. The ones that do are dumb as a bag of rocks and the schools teach at that level.
Private school is the way to go. Include that expense (another 6-800 month for both)

I'm making my plans to get OUT of Cali...

Ill second that. The foothills outside of Sac are nice. I live off of the I80 corridor, but off hwy 50 is nice too. I even get the occasional day or two of snow a year, (enough to look pretty, but no shoveling) I have 8 cars and 2 trailers and am storing another car for a friend and haven't had a problem.

If you are looking for somthing closer to the coast, try Santa Rosa, its nice there too.

I would sugest reseaching 3 or 4 places and then fly out for a visit. Also be prepared to pay 2-3 times what you are used to for a house/property.

The SF Bay area has a large industry of recruiters and corporate headhunters. Companys like RHI are headquartered here. Business must be good, since they keep posting record quarters!

I had a look at the carproperty site you listed and noticed this house Emory Ave, Campbell, CA It's two blocks from my home. Campbell is a small town located next door to San Jose. I actually know the listing agent, as she lives in the neighborhood. Most of the houses in the neighborhood were built in the late 40's into the early 50's. No sidewalks, wide streets. The listing price is actually not that bad considering the location, lot size, and square footage on the house and garage.

I looked for over a year to find a home in the area with a 4 car garage. Good luck.

If you need anything let me know.

California is a turd-world cesspool of socialism and invader trash. My advice is find another state.

    Chris

  29. I was born and raised in the Pasadena area and then later Orange County before I made the move to Austin, TX almost 4 years ago.

The though of moving back home to SoCal has crossed my mind about 1.1 million times but I dont think I can do it.I get a sick feeling every time I think about it. If I go anywhere back to the golden state it will be Central/Northern CA. But then again the industry I work in isnt doing to well out there right now.

A move like that is scary and I have to agree with a previous post, fly out there, take time off and get to know a bunch of areas before you take the dive.
