I just got a hold of a packard straight 8, and wanted to know what year and motor it is. The numbers casted on the heads are as follows 426408 288 std 327 at. Any Idea what year engine and if it is a 9 main or 5 main. Any help is apreciated. Thanks Looz Nutz:confused:

the exhaust pipe is held to the exhaust manifold by four bolts and nuts.
    288, 327 and 359 cubic inch
displacement engine from 1948 to 1954.
exhaust pipe is held to the exhaust manifold by only two studs.

    257 and 282 cubic inch
displacement from 1935 to 1947. the cylinder head is 32 3/4 inches long.

The engine number is on the drivers side back towards the driver . up high on a smoothed pad/.

packardinfo.com is the best source for any of this
