Tonight me and my buddy were coming home from a party when we noticed something laying on the side of the road. We both looked at each other in disbelief, and we turned around and went back to inspect it. We got out of the car and by damn, there was a complete 350, minus oil pan, valve covers, and intake, laying on the shoulder of the road. We figured it must have fell off a scrap truck or something so we loaded it up on my truck and brought it home. Havent gotten around to taking it apart yet.
What kind of "wierd find" stories do you guys have?

Sort of a kind ... but somewhat different ...

I was driving my red 65 Corvette ... many, many years ago and stopped at a station to get a soft drink. The guy running the station asked if I wanted to buy a spare ? I asked why and he said he had a guy get some gas and left his spare ... as a deposit a few weeks back and had not returned. He wanted his 7 dollars back. I said sure ... 1965 Corvette ( never used on the ground ) spare tire and rim ... which was a aluminum knock off wheel :D

In McMinnville OR a few years back, I found a '74 Mopar 400 big block, same as yours, less covers and pan, sitting at the end of an off ramp. Free is almost always a good price.

I found this cool N.O.S. Thrush muffler in the shed of a house my sister bought. It was never installed. I thought it was cool.

When I worked at a car wash I found a $50 dollar bill. I held on to it for a few weeks and no one called to claim it so I kept it. I also found a Ford Small Block on the road once but it looked like it had set out in the rain for a year or two.

Kind of off topic but funny:
I coached varsity football a few years ago. Near the end of the season we always have a cook out at a local farmers house on the back roads. One kid pulled in and his truck sounded really loud so he looked under it and found his muffler had fallen off. A few minutes later another player showed up with a flat tire, almost deflated to the rim. I told him he had a flat tire and he says "Oh, I antecedently ran over this muffler that was lying right in the middle of the road!"

A little o/t, but when I was about 9 years old (27 years ago) my friend and I were digging a hole in his back yard for no good reason, and when we got down 3 or 4 feet, we hit something metal. When we got it dug up, it was an old rusty army helmet.

Funny, same thing for me just a while back. I was stuck in traffic in a major intersection, traffic was trying to get around some obstuction, I assummed a dead car. I finally get up to it and it's a complete (quadjet and all) 350 lying in middle of the intersection. No one around to claim it but I couldn't figure out how to pick it up and get it in my truck.

  9. Working a consession stand at a new motocross track and heard a "thunk" on the roof, and saw a white thing bounce on to the front lawn. (Was thrown onto the roof from the bank above)
Ran out to see it and it was a human skull. Two of them were dug up that day by the bikes (a new track) and I grabbed one of them. Cops showed up wanting it and I told them to fuck off and come back with a warrant. They never did. Still have it.

Been told it was an old indian burial ground, who knows?

I asked this farmer if I could check out this totally distroyed roadrunner he had sitting in a field and...full of rabbits and junk like any normal field car, and as I turned to walk away, I spotted a PERFECT six-pack air cleaner behind the seat. I told him what it was worth and asked what he wanted for it and he said "take it" !!!!

so I'm going to the hardware store one exit down the freeway from where I was driving while out running errands. at the last second I decide to hang a quick right turn and drive through the neighborhood rather than get on the freeway.

I round this turn that is the backside to the highschool and what do I see? a corvette rally wheel on the side of the road. 15 x 7. just the one I need for the 57 chevy I bought with 3 rally wheels.

I am still looking for a free tire to go with it to complete the set.

I sorta watch the side of the road since I have good luck finding stuff.

    So far I have found:

A nice craftsman ratchet with a 3/4 deep well attached
    A complete 1957 Plymouth Savoy
An incomplete 1957 Buick (both long forgotten in the woods)
Workmen about to bury 2,000 lbs of 600 pair copper phone cable they didn't feel like picking up (I asked em if I could have it and they said sure)
5,000 octagonal paving bricks dumped by the buisness park I worked at (again, ask and ye shall recieve)
Many other things, too numerous to count including a fire hydrant, a 40 ft aluminum Mc Donalds sign felled by a tornado (another ask for it thing), post hole diggers and many, many rims and tires.

I guess this habit of checking out the side of the road came from when I was about 10 and would find porn in the ditches around where I was living. Porn make everyone pay attention...

  20. Driving on the highway back to my town I found a 1934 ford grille pity was I knew who it belong to as my buddy was picking up his latest container from the U.S of A, It fell of the back of his truck, Iwas about an hour behind him and know body saw it on the side of the road.
Also back in 2001 I found $200 dollars on the ground in Disneyland, also found $165 on my front lawn one Saturday morning.

  24. Found an old de-militarized mortar shell in my grandads back yard. Found some old gold coins in a house my boss in high school was remodeling.
Neighbor found the corner of an old engine block, while cutting weeds, with his pushmower. Nasty sound, carnage for the blade I'm sure.

Several years back a buddy of mine was out hunting for old bicycle parts, ect. left on the curb for the trash pick-up. He and his son built up the parts into bikes and sold 'em. On one side street, there was a large pile of trash in front of a house with a "SOLD" sign on the lawn and in the trash was an early Corvette gage panel in great condition, with all the gages !! He made a few bucks on that one!

I find stuff in my yard all the time. I live on a croner lot, so when cars an trucks go around the corner, stuff just seems to plop itself in my yard. So far I have had two engines, several hub caps, all sorts of bottles...lol......many name brand ales......lol......dolls, magazines, and the best was an early S&W revolver in the rose bushes. Cleaned it up and it was a 45 long colt, double action, sheriffs model with 6" snout.

Found the big aluminum fuel nozzle tanker truck drivers use to put fuel in gas station underground tanks. Worth about $500. Made it into a neat lamp.
