Is anyone planning on cruising the Strip while in Vegas?
Where to meet?
What time?

Here is a little tip about crusin the strip. Check your fuel level first before you head out. Back in 2004 my car didn't have a fuel level gauge (still doesn't) and I got very caught up in the moment and found myself pushing my ford down the strip for about a block until I found a place to turn off. The up side is that the traffic moves very slow on the weekends. Make sure your cooling system is up for it.

That's one of the things that sucks about Viva, you never see anybody cruisin around.

Let's change that!!!
Come on suckas, the casinos are open 24/7, so be sober enough to cruise around Friday nite!
It's about DRIVING cars!
So, where is a good place to meet up?

I lived in Las Vegas when I tuned 16 (1963) and the place to cruise was Fremont Street. Too bad you can't still do that.

I live in vegas. Dont worry about the race, it is downtown. Gold Coast is kind of in the middle of the strip. I would just meet up at the parking lot upstairs.

Sounds like a good start.
I am not from Vegas. It would be cool to get a few of you that are to lead the way so we know where to turn around. I am thinking people should meet up around 7PM. Early enough to cruise and still hit up the bars after, or chill in the parking lot/roof top.
How does that sound to everyone?
Any other ideas?
As much as I love looking at cars, I love driving 'em!

When is Viva?

If I take a big road trip this summer, Viva may be the one I want to take.

The car show will be on Saturday April 7. The whole shabang starts Thursday, the 5th, I believe, continuing through the weekend.

You can get all the info. at vivalasvegas.net
Now back to the topic: Who wants to cruise?
My car car is in pieces and we are busting our ass to get it in driving condition and I don't just want to park it once I get there.

Well, not to rain on anybody's parade but, cruising the strip in Vegas is the last thing I would want to do! The traffic is the worst I have ever been in - bar none. I go to Vegas a couple times a year and am always amazed at the traffic. Non-stop, well, make that non-go!!! You just sit and move a yard, sit and move a yard, etc. If you do plan on cruising, at least don't do it on Friday night as it is the absolute busiest night of traffic on the boulevard. Also, as suggested earlier be SURE your cooling system is up to the task. Nothing worse than sitting in traffic watching your temp gauge peg the needle!

Just my 2 cents worth.

Yes, SO-AZ... I like your style.
We are talking about cruising here. If your car will overheat, then you already know this is not your gig.
We are not talking about running 10s down the strip side by side.
If traffic is "non-go", then that means the people around me and the pedestrians get more time to check out my ride. Hell, I might even get out of my car and shakes hands with drives next to me if we aren't going anywhere.
SO-AZ, I will see you there!

Who else is in?
Any other thoughts?

I'm not gonna have a car to drive but I'll certainly be a passenger if someone wants a co-pilot. That's the one thing I wanted to do last year but didn't know anyone. shoot me a PM and we can figure it out.

One of the most memorable things I ever did was cruise my 1954 Chevy in 2000 down the strip. We had 7 people in the car, one of 'em was a huge black dude. My friend Germ, not THE germ, was sitting on the passenger side. We had some squares pull up and ask him "how many people do you have in that car?" Germ replied, "hell, I don't know, we're all gay."

Gonna' add my .02 to this also... unfortunately he's right. It's bumper to bumper on the weekends. NORMAL weekends! Now add in that the very 1st Grand Prix in Las Vegas is going to be in town as well as all of the Viva people and you will have even MORE traffic. Not saying it wouldn't be fun, just prepare yourself. You WILL be sitting quite bit. Probably won't be too hot that weekend thankfully, so that will offer you some relief to the overheating problem a bit, but it will be sloooowww going. Late Late night is a bit better (3 AM).

The idea is a GREAT one and I would LOVE to see a parade of crazy a-holes in their rods cruisin down the BLVD. Just something to think about. If you do it, video it, take pictures and report back. If it works out to be pretty fun, maybe we can make it an annual deal for everyone.

Now.... let's hear MORE STORIES!! :D

With the pro and cons being weighted, the question still stands.
Who is in?
And what are some good suggestions for places to meet up and a good time to do so? I like meeting in the lot near the show, but that will be pretty busy. Isn't there a sonic burger close by or is that near the Orleans? They have a pretty big lot just to meet in if I remember right.

Im in. we made a wrong turn the first year we went out there in the 60 chevy "nasty rat" gasser, and wound up on the strip. Still the best fun i have had in vlv. It took two hours before we could get to a place to turn off!!

McD's at 7pm sounds good to me.

Hellbound, I like your style man! Life is full of best worst mistakes! I say take the opportunity to get stuck in traffic! There is nothing more fun then watching people around you trip out on old cars and giving you a thumbs up.

Haha! We were running out of gas so we were trying to find a gas station. We asked a small group in a convertable volvo if they knew where one was, they just waved and kept filming us with their camcorder and every time we repeated ourselves they just smiled bigger.

I have lived here all my life and it would be a blast. It will take a long time, but worth it! I am sure we will have some great stories to tell afterwords.
There is also a Cruise and car show going on in Henderson that night at
Charlie Holders Hotel and Casino in Henderson on Boulder Hwy from 6 till 10.
Count me in.
