I think the sedan is the only one that looks right chopped. Theres too much of a flat space at the back window on the coupes.
4" front, 5" back, slanted "B" pillers. Make back window look right, what ever it takes; leaned, slid forward, moved down. Brick
I personally think 3" front and 5" rear is about aesthetically perfect,But I am not very experienced in these things. I also think if you exceed that amount you should remove some metal ABOVE the rear glass and move it forwards a bit to prevent a very thick and bulky look in the rear roof posts, and as well it adds some visual "length" to the trunk which is badly needed..... And BTW a coupe is just as beautiful chopped as any sedan.....
crash51 on here has one of the best looking sedan chops in my opinion. I don't have pics, but maybe he'll post some.. or look for threads of his car "loco gringo" this one is pretty good too, and there's a great looking red one that I can't find my pictures of anymore.
Here's a chop I did I can't remember how much it was, but it's around 4" in the front and 5" in the back.
Hardtopping them looks damn cool chopped 4 or 5 in the front and like 6 in back, but do your research first
I think that Ford is on the Jamco site. I chopped mine 6"/9"...not done yet, but its radical for sure. Thats what I was going for. Next one? Not so much, maybe 4/5 or 4/6 something like that. The amount I took out was a pain in the a$$ to get stuff to come together at its new location.
Heres a 51 coupe I did last fall, maybe the rear window might be food for thought. Window is flipped upside down and moved up till it reached the top, filler added below the window, a little different then just laying it foward and filling the gap above the window.
I don't think that my pic is going to post. but we did mine 4 3/4in the front and 7 in the back. look for shoebox chop done to see pics.
The one on the left measures 5" chop. The one on the right measures 7" chop. That's compared to 5051's unchopped sedan. The one on the right,I think,is chopped more in the back though. Here's some closer pic's.
I agree that the only shoebox ford to chop is the 2-door sedan. Coupes look good from the factory, and looked stepped on with anything more than a really minimal chop. That said, I would suggest that you mark your pillars and posts with differing widths of masking tape, then take some photos of the car from the side. Then take a pair of scissors to the photos and remove the width of the tape from each photo. This will give you an fair idea of what your finished product will look like. If you are handy with your computer, you can probably slice the photos without scissors. Take your time. Plan carefully. Good luck. Hope this helps. Jack.
Check out the Mad Fab dvd where Bob Bleed chops a sedan, he has alot of the same pet peevs as I do about how they're done sometimes.
Calling Dave Paras! I don't have pics on this computer but the 50 2dr cdan that Dave did two years ago I think is perfect. He had a whole thing on here about it so if someone has pics or if Dave sees this and wants to post...
you guys rule i'm really liking chrisp's style right now.. I think I'll probably go with 4/5 or 4/6 but i'll def be taking jack luther's advice on the pictures and tape setup. Thanks!
I think its at the end of this thread: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31832&page=1&pp=20&highlight=bagged+shoebox Lots of great pictures in that post of all sorts of great chops. (including some great looking coupes) (well, at least I think the look cool)
You can get pretty wild with the sedans and have it still look proportional. In some ways i like them with a radical chop better than a merc.
I think that is one of my favorites! If it is the same on in this post: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=423030&postcount=51 One of the best cut coupes I've ever seen, one of my favorite shoebox chops either coupe or sedan.
I love this chop bigtime: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82731 Same car: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103894
Heres my old one I did. Its 5.5 in the front and 9.25 in the back. Moved the rear window forward a bunch too......Shiny
