yes, unless you do it yourself. try searching for patch panels, or good used parts.

Buy me one too and I'll come help!

Seriously, if you don't have a welder already invest in one and have at it. At worst you'll get experience and at best it will turn out great.

Anything can be fixed, it's all a matter if it's economically feasable. If it'd cost more for you to fix it then to buy a better builder then you got a parts car. This is assuming there are no other factors like this one sentamental for some reason.

  10. Fix it. You can do it... ...all night long.

  11. Fenders unbolt, are they hard to find for those Mercs?

    Hey,

All of those panels are most fixable! Given what good '49-'51
Mercury sheetmetal is bringin', I'd say it's time to learn about
welding and basic panel fabrication. Hunt this site, John Kelly's
site, and the metalshapers.org site, and you'll have in your
posession, some of the best information available on how to
go about repairing this Merc., panel by panel.

Just a note of caution. Make flexable templets out of filament tape before you cut away anything. Use the templets to construct the patch.

The funny thing is...my Michigan car actually looks better than his, and I thought mine was bad!

Mine is rotted in the same places, just not as bad- I have a little more to work with, fortunately...but yes, it can be repaired.

From what I have gathered talking to solo, he lacks the tools and experience, so his initial investment required to undertake this would be on par with finding better Merc fenders- even at $500 a pop. If he takes them somewhere to have them fixed, I'm thinking the labor might even run that high depending on the quality of the work for everything. But now might be a good excuse to buy a mig welder :D

  19. I hand build sections like those day in and day out. No big deal. It's all about time and money. What do you have the most of and where to you want to apply it? Any fair bodyman can make a soild car out of it.

Beins' you are from California, I bet you about shit yourself when you saw that....

Rest assured my non rust belt friend, that is very fixable. A welder, grinder and cut off wheel and you will be just fine.

    Here is mine before
