Getting hard to find that many old coupes/roadsters in one place in the US anymore.

  13. We park over the back of the buildings, get there early and are gone before the shops open. ;)
(except the coffee shops and bakery of course :))

The people in the cafe are still traumatised by your order!

sure brought back memories of what it used to be around here many years ago--bunch of rod guys and cars show up at Shipley donuts (a Texas tradition) early Sat. morning, talk, meet, laugh, and just a great time, no money asked. Leave before the kiddies and moms arrive. Then the trash kids showed, woofers, thrown bottles, paper sacks of trash, even booze (at 7 in the morning?). Finally the owners, who were losing business, just politely asked us to leave-hated to but had to. End of story.

  19. Looks like a nice gathering. Cars and coffee around here is nothing but Camaros, late Corvettes, Mustangs and C10 pickup trucks...:(

    Hello,

Nice photos of a cool array of hot rods. The shade structures are a good thing in the hot weather climate areas. Even in coastal So Cal, the weather gets hot, despite the cooling influence of the shoreline ocean. Those events under the shade structures are cool... pun intended.

One of the things we decided after several visits to those weekends with open air antique auto swap meets and open air car shows without any trees or shade, is that it is/was horrendous. It was hard to enjoy walking around viewing the nice hot rods or specialty parts in need for a project. Back then, it was easier to go to an indoor car show and enjoy the surroundings. Plus, there were local old car parts dealers scattered all over So Cal, like :

Which was located just up the street from our last Westside of Long Beach house and was the entry off of the freeway ramp into our neighborhood. The place became the go to place for N.O.S. parts necessary to finish the job at hand.

So, the outdoor car shows and swap meets were a thing of the past for a couple of hot rod enthusiasts.
But, if some club or organization utilizes the latest shade structures in So Cal, well, there might be a couple of old hot rod folks visiting the car shows under the shade, in those coastal communities.

Here are a couple of photos of shade parking lot structure at the two OC coastal high schools. The high schools in the whole local school district are run by the solar panel structures on the campus areas. They also offer a nice cool car after spending hours in class all day, too.

It is a wonder that no one has decided to hold outdoor events under those shade structures. The local school clubs have done car washes and swap meets to earn money for the school clubs. But, so far no outside organization has used them for a car show or any events.

The one local high school car event is the annual open house/car show presented by the last remaining Automotive Class Shop and group in this whole South Coastal Area. But, the auto shop has their own parking lot with access to the shop classrooms/garages in a different part of their campus.

Shade structures and outdoor car shows, what a great idea !!! The local cars and coffee event on the Saturday morning hours, every month are nice. But, when the sun is out, it is roasting, even at 9-11 a.m. operating hours. The thing the event has going, is that there is an ocean breeze coming up the hill slope giving some resolution to the early morning heat on hot days. YRMV
