I searched and people don’t seem to dig them the way I do but between my 1949 Chevrolet half ton’s floor starter and the column shift, it’s pretty much undriveable for the majority of the public which suits me just fine. I recently made a reduction in length to the column shifter arms to accommodate a 1962 261 engine with a Clifford intake. Here is the present 1956 235 with the shift arms reduced in size. Here’s a picture of a stock Reverse/First arm for comparison. I moved the pivot hole 1 1/4”. These pivots are worth their weight in gold. Business seat, 3 o’clock, Neutral position. Reverse or 2nd Gear (same throw). First or Third (same throw). I cleaned out the shift box and topped off with Cornhead Grease, good for another 74 years or so. This is a non native 1969 Saginaw/Borg-Warner 3sp+overdrive shift plate. I made my own rods and used Heim joints that are smooth and easily adjustable. Shifts like a hot knife through butter on the table of a non air conditioned 1950’s Virginia home in summer.
Very cool! I’ll have to reference this when we get around to setting up my sons 51. Thanks for sharing the details!
Little Truckdoctor and I are going to small block our 1950 3100 at some point and we want to keep the 3 on the tree, but I want to use a later model synchronized transmission and open drive line. Thanks for sharing and getting me to thinking!
