Well isn’t this interesting. “ Ran 13.8 at Magnolia Drag Strip in 1958” This thing must have been built close to my hometown as I am about 10 miles away from this little drag strip still in operation. How cool is this in so many ways. Is the owners listed? We may be able to provide more history.
The only thing I have in my notes is that the name is "Haube." That being said, these images look to be from a magazine. Currently scanning all of my 1958 and 1959 magazines to find it.
I have a 1/25 scale chopped 32 5w body I've been going back and forth on what style to build it. I dig this one! hmmmm....
Found the car in the Hot Rod 1959 Annual. However, it's not the same publication these images were scanned from as the photos are cropped differently. There are no additional photos either... However, I got his full name. Robert Lee Haube
That is an impressive coupe especially for 1958! Hopefully an article with more pictures can be found. Root, that reorganization is over the top ( Hope you Thanked your Wife).
Fantastic... You can see how I did it here (skip to the 7:30 mark): As far as I know, I have just about every hot rod publication from 1948 to 1958 and most to 1965. Aside from a few duplicates I have for collecting, all of mine are beat to shit as I use them quite a bit for scanning, etc...
I had a friend of my dad that was an avid magazine collector and hot rodder. Been around my whole life. He has Parkinson’s and called one day and said they were moving and downsizing. He told me to come get all of the mags. I was surprised since he has a son that is a hot rod guy. He wanted me to have them because he didn’t want them ending up on eBay. I felt honored, so I figure I should get them organized in his honor. I started filling 2 of the 4 drawer lateral cabinets that I talked about in the other post.
I would tend to agree ... with the exception of the choice of the '53-'54 Ford taillights: ... I'm just not a fan.
That's some good striping on the tail end, and digging those flames! Wonder if Southard had a hand with it?
Fabulous. I’ll send out some feelers and see what I can find out on my end. https://dragwayofmagnolia.com/
Absolutely. I love Speed Mechanics. As for the taillights, I would never chose them... But I like them on this car as it sort of legitimizes it as a weird period built car. Just enough weirdness I guess....
Yep... But I don't think the pictures I have were scanned from this book. Note the leading photo is cropped differently.
