Pretty cool article and a mention of the HAMB here; https://texashighways.com/travel/ow...-hotrod/?utm_source=join1440&utm_medium=email
The writer really should use Google. Bruce Springsteen’s ? “Blinded by the Light.” Cut loose like a deuce / Another runner in the night. But Bob is my hero.
I have heard of flat top Bob from my son and other friends but have never meet him, maybe i will some day.
Yep, Bob is the best when it comes to business and personal. My brother and I went to go visit him last year after my brother ended up with his 61 Invicta. He was an amazing host.
Bob deserves the recognition, he is a real hot rodder and he has helped me many times over the years when I was building the Ranch Wagon, he has also helped me with non Hamb friendly later model parts. Another thing about Bob, his prices are fair, like Jeff Norwell said, he is my hero. HRP
Eh, he's an OK guy I guess. LOL Someday I dream of being half as cool as Bob. Nice article...they couldn't have picked a better guy to feature. Thanks for letting us know about it @catdad49!!
Credit, in the article, should be given to Jamie and Jim Johnson of Albuquerque,NM for the beautiful restoration of the Causey '32 Roadster.
Its great to know, that there is a place like this, where you can actually buy old car parts, from a person that actually care's about the customer and is doing a great job of preserving cool items, from history!
We called in to visit Bob and his yard and take in his BBQ hospitality before the LSR, great times . John Mearns was there painting the tribute to Bobs dad on the wall, the IH Hibler Implements. Bob offered us his old yard truck but we chose to walk around the vast yard. They all closed up the actual yard early to get ready for the BBQ and forgot we were in the yard, funny. Not so funny the big ass bull that was eyeing us up , Me being a cow farmer has Its advantages. I managed to wriggle under the fence and let my wife out. Good times. Also forgot wellington was a dry area as Bob had advised. Thanks to Bobs hospitality he had a few spare beers for the forgetful Kiwis.
Not to turn this into a music history lesson but Bruce Springsteen wrote the song and recorded it in 1973 on the Greetings from Ashbury Park NJ album. Manfred Mann covered it in 1976 and changed the lyric from cut to revved. What the author of the article wrote was 100% correct.
He saved my ass a couple of times with my car. Everyone there was good on the phone and got me what I needed.
Yes, the first song on the first Bruce album. I like his version better but Manfred Mann had the bigger hit with it. He also covered For You and Spririt in the Night by Bruce. Great article on Bob.
Are you really even a Hamber if ya dont have any parts from Owens Auto Salvage & ol Flat Top Bob on your car... I doubt it
That's a great article. Kiwi 4D's comment about "dry area" Reminds me about my father in law telling about a family trip out to west Texas to visit my mother in law's relatives. Someone decided that they needed to make a beer run and he jumps in the truck to go with them and 106 miles later they get to a little store with a giant beer cooler that was in a "wet" county to buy a supply of beer. I'm guessing that many of the local cars in Owen's salvage yard got worn out making similar beer runs back years ago. You have to wonder how many cars are on the road or on the way to completion because of Owens Salvage though.
