    Today as we think back on these famous custom cars we all thought they were perfect but actually they were driver used cars lucky to have been steamed off before starting. But to be honest the rebuilds of them found and done today are what we thought were were looking at.
    Then they were masked off a painted outside or in a garage with no booth. Body revisions with a torch and lead filled. Done in a matter of days or weeks not years like Kendig today. Back in the 50’s a $1000 could get you a nice custom and $2000 a great one. Today it’s $100,000 to start with and no thinks twice about it.
    In 1960 I was working for a $1.25 per and $50 paint job was tops.

    I'm with @verde742 on this one. While it is a Desoto grille, the body appears to have started out as an early A. It doesn't have the suicide doors of the Desoto.
