I was surprised they didn't mention that it ran on butane. I actually thought it was propane...maybe he used both.

  9. Got off to a bit of a bumpy start on Hamb figuring out the right place to post ideas / pictures /questions on this build. Stogy was great at providing encouragement, suggesting I post here, and posting pics of the car earlier in this thread….

We’ve made a little bit of progress changing some 6 pin wheels to 5 x 5 bolt pattern from Ken’s Engineering…

Right now we’re in the middle of fitting an original wood grained 35 dash to the 31 Model A cowl… Evaluating a t-10 installation from a 60 Corvette in place of the 37 LaSalle 3 speed, and adding a braced Olds Axle… Plus dialing in a roll hoop for vintage hill climb events.

Still have a ways to go, but it’s getting a little closer… Hope to add the 471 blower before too long… Thanks for the place to post the car.

  10. I’ve seen some newer builds with off road rear tires. Thought to myself, did guys do that back in the day.

I got my license in '61 in Pittsburg CA. Most of us only had one car. When we strayed up into the Mother Lode country I was amazed to see hot rods & customs with mud & snow tires. I think the case in this picture has more to do with desert dirt roads & dry lakes.

Anthony you come up with the coolest avatars. Sometimes I think that back in the day they used whatever they could get for tires.

  16. Yep. but examine that car.

...This was mentioned as a possible match post the pulled over days and if you look closely the fella that owns it does resemble the younger hoodlum...the rollbar looks similar and the stance is also similar...I'll see if I can find that link...done...

Me like - I get a "what if an early hot rodder made it to Le Mans in the mid to late 30s" vibe.

Hats off to @onekoolkat1950. Ray doesn't hang out here much anymore (too much work at his shop).
Great to see so many pages of unique ideas from a small little detail to a whole crazy creation.
It's easier to run with the herd than to break out and try new things. This thread shows that sometimes that crazy idea or that image in your head will work, you just need the balls to pull it off.
