My wife and I were married in a church designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It was designed with a "Steeple of Light".

Here's a street view pic from 2018. You can see the car (red circle) and the place in the yard (blue circle) where the fountain is now.

If Frank Lloyd Wright had a '57 Chevy the roof would leak. As you can tell I'm not a fan of Frank Lloyd Wrong. The veranda at Falling Water almost collapsed because he would not listen to his architect's telling him that the weight of the cantilever could not support itself. He also designed a hatch in the living room to open during the summer months and refused to allow screen's over the opening. Dark, wet environment, perfect breeding ground for mosquitos, so the owners had to install screen's with out Frank knowing it. Almost every building he designed had issues.

Maybe the 57 owner and F.L.W. were both Madmen or maybe geniuses???

I say it's another victim of Covid. He probably had nothing to do and came up with this.

While he didn't build this, it is claimed to have been built for Mr. Wright. But it soooo wrong! He should have stuck to designing buildings. He had a thing for Cords and Lincolns.

  22. He was a master of aesthetics and self-promotion, but severely lacking in engineering and construction skills. He also had a severe hearing problem when it came to listening to people that could bail his ass of a jam!

Frank went off the rails around 1920. There was a fork in his design road, and he took the wrong branch.

A more interesting question would be, what if he's tackled a car design during his Prairie School period? Perhaps something on Dagmar lines? I'd still rather see an early-'20s car designed by Antoni Gaudí.

I wonder, at a more academic level, what the Frank Lloyd Wright of the Johnson Wax Headquarters would have made of a '57 Chevy. I suspect that his critique might have been subtler than might at first thought be expected: the result might have been a definitive mild custom.

  24. Right or wrong he was pretty influential, always spend some time at the school if we are in Arizona.

  27. Johnson Wax had a full crew dedicated to just keeping their offices dry. In the midwest, if Wright designed it you either got wet or spent a shitload of money on the roofs.

Frank Lloyd Wright had an L29 CORD, guess the color was his choice. I added a book on him to the "Antiques" section. Bob

We went to the Scottsdale Wright campus on the same weekend that they had an open house showing the structures that the students built for class credit. And, they lived in them for the duration of classes. What a treat. FYI, Wright’s son created the Lincoln Log building sets
