Was a productive day… Gave the car a CLR bath and a lot of the black paint came back. More work to do but I think it’ll be perfectly shitty when done.

Looks better, looks like it could use a little lacquer blending in some areas. Lacquer is awesome that way, just rattle can lacquer can be blended easy enough and lacquer black is lacquer black, no color match required

On your CLR bath, do you just wet a rag and rub it around or do you spray it on and let it sit? How do you do it?

I took a wash bucket and filled it Halfway with hot water and half a bottle of CLR. Then used a non-scratching scrub pad and soaked the panel and scrubbed with it. I know some people suggest to use a red scuff pad but I think that just puts a shit ton of scratches in the panel you have to then polish out. I think using the red scuff pad in certain areas that are worse would work ok but I didn’t want to do that on the entire car. I don’t let it sit too horribly long on there.

Drivetrain all installed. A snotty 286 59ab, 39 trans, and a bullet proofed Columbia rear made to fit a 32-34.

Also welded the threaded filler neck onto another 32 tank and added a flange for a SW fuel sender. While I had the tank out I cleaned, painted and shitified the rear gas tank cover (it was super crusty with zero paint left). Making some headway now!

Just finished watching the latest video. Looks great!

The video comparing the heads was an interesting one as well, wasn’t expecting those results!

  10. This is the car that led me to your channel and I’m a fan! I think the Bob McGee roadster also has a set of Federal Mogul copper heads. Super cool.

A little new lacquer sprayed on the areas I patched and the passenger door that was missing all of its paint. Spent today doing a lot of polishing and was able to bring most of the old lacquer back. Still need to do the hood but big improvement!

You have definitely done a fantastic job with it. Top notch

  17. I was at Matt's shop about a month ago. I saw the work that Matt had done to the roadster. Matt is a true craftsman. He has the eye for doing things right the first time, and he is a real good person, too. I am glad to see guys like Matt picking up the ropes from us older guys. We had our turn, now it is their turn to shine.

Got a better old black lacquer filled grill and got the hood to fit a little better. Pretty much good for some shakedown runs when it gets warmer. Have a very talented friend recreating the top and doing the interior in the spring. Hopefully it’s 99% “done” by late spring!
