a little something different. my mom & 3 cousins drove from Omaha, NE to Calif in August 1940 in what appears to be a 38-40 2dr sedan & kept a scrapbook. I found it after she passed away. 1st night they drove to Rock Springs, WY. they drove from 400am til 900pm. cant imagine doing that with early roads, poor radio reception, no modern conveniences. I re-created some of her trip in 2019 in my 40 tudor driving the old Lincoln Hwy from Omaha to Denver. 2018-03-19 22.31.40.jpg 2018-03-19 22.26.34.jpg 2018-03-19 22.30.53.jpg P7070152.JPG P7080182.JPG P7070174.JPG P7080259.JPG P7080266.JPG

  2. I also; have some of this kind of stuff. The notebook my Grandparents kept when they drove my '40 from NW Washington to NE Nebraska the year I was born, and the maps they used on the trip. I recreated the trip with my daily driver in 2001. I'd like to do it again with the '40 but the price of gas is going to have to come down a bit for that to ever happen...

Oh, I stand corrected. I just remember it was a hand in a box doing favors for folks.

It was too kool seeing the two parked together.

  11. Made me wish I had brought my coupe this year, although it was fun rolling in with the absolutely roughest vehicle accepted into the event.

  15. Last night at our local car club meeting, we were discussing our upcoming 50th Anniversary.
We were asking around when the club had it's first car show. One of the members said he thought it was in 1976. He was not a member , but was a participant. I think we have 2-3 charter members left, but they weren't there to ask.

So I got home and went online and did a newspaper search for our club in the Sedalia Democrat newspaper. Sure enough Sept 19, 1976 was the first annual car show. 2 employees of the paper were there to cover the event. 1 reporter and 1 photographer. Page 1 and page 4A WOW.

The article goes on to state "58 antique cars and modified "street rods" were entered for judging in 4 separate classes, depending on the age of the car and if it had been modified."

The club presented 25 trophies and a "peoples choice " trophy to Bob Anderson of Springfield Missouri for his 1940 Ford two door sedan.
Sadly , no picture of it in the 2 page article.

Any of you Springfield members know Bob Anderson?

  20. This red 40 seen at a small Marietta, GA show had a back seat install. It was on the small side obviously, and had very little room, like 6 inches, between the back of the front seat and the front of the back seat. Hard to photo through the open window but you get the idea.

  25. That's Cal Tiefenauer. Notice one of the bronze Roarin' 30's of Missouri club plaque on the passenger side bumper bracket.

I have the front spring and wishbones from that car under my '40 coupe.

  26. When I was over at Cal's house last spring, I believe that he told me he had swapped out front suspension with a Corvair crossmember and front suspension. Dale West had the wishbones, spring, and axle, and donated those to my collection of stuff for the coupe back in the early 80's.

Here's a Rob Hudson photo of my coupe from the 9th Annual St Louis Area Hot Rod Hundred.
