The weather on Friday for Shades very good, the forecast for Saturday was 90%+ for rain but my friend and I were going to drive our topless and fenderless roadsters the 35 miles to the show regardless. Saturday morning there was a light rain which continued through morning coffee, breakfast, and trip preparation. When we realized it probably wasn't going to stop for a while we put on our rain suits and made the best of it. The rain continued until we were approaching the entry gate to the show. There were only a few very light showers during the rest of the day and the turnout of cars and spectators was quite good considering the threat of less than favorable weather. So despite weather conditions the last go around for The Shades of the Past was a success. Here are a few of the cars from today I felt were HAMB worthy, it's no coincidence that a lot are 32's considering that this is the 90th anniversary of that iconic car. 20220910_085127.jpg 20220910_111314.jpg 20220910_111317.jpg 20220910_111938.jpg 20220910_115637.jpg 20220910_115740.jpg 20220910_115758.jpg 20220910_115941.jpg 20220910_120256.jpg 20220910_120346.jpg 20220910_122638.jpg 20220910_122753.jpg 20220910_122904.jpg 20220910_124029.jpg 20220910_124135.jpg 20220910_125413.jpg 20220910_125442.jpg 20220910_125938.jpg 20220910_130211.jpg 20220910_130223.jpg 20220910_131338.jpg 20220910_141437.jpg 20220910_141453.jpg 20220910_141459.jpg 20220910_141651.jpg 20220910_142138.jpg 20220910_142703.jpg 20220910_142647.jpg 20220910_143458.jpg 20220910_143512.jpg

I believe it’s a Studebaker. It was done to a very nice level.

I had no idea the show was closing down. Wonder if someone else will continue to promote a show there?

  18. Thanks for taking the time to post all the great photo's Gary, it looks like there were a lot of nice cars in attendance and some absolutely knock out Deuces.

Many folks don't get driving a roadster in the rain, but it's just part of owning a topless car. HRP

In my opinion driving a roadster is a totally different experience than any other type of car, it's much like riding a motorcycle your at one with the road and part of the scenery. My thought is if your driving your roadster with the top up your really driving a soft top coupe. My friend I mentioned (whose nickname is "Duck") and I both have tops for our cars but never use them, mine is a lift off and his is a folding top, both are in storage. Actually driving in a moderate rain is not that uncomfortable rain, most of the water passes right over your head, at slower speeds it becomes more of a problem especially in a fenderless car as you make a turn. I have two more major roadster trips this year I am driving mine to Oklahoma for the Gathering at the Roc, and then Duck and I are taking his to Utah, both without tops. Should be easy going I recall an article I believe in Hot Rod about driving a topless roadster from Nashville to Los Angeles in January, now that takes determination!

Word is that Bobby Alloway is working with others to put together a similar show, not at Dollywood.

A facility is one of the first things you need. Martinsville was mentioned as a potential. It is still just being investigated, as far as i know. It also takes a bunch of people to run an event like this.
