Technical What are you working on?

But its really peeving me sometimes...
I need a flared 7/16 coupling for a 5/16 line, will need to make sure to head to napa and get some... aswell as a flared filter, hopefully.

I'm done fabbing parts on the garage art blower, sent 3 pieces of the aluminum out with my daughter so her better half can tig weld them together for me.
Last week I had checked a local machine shop that I use about redrilling my axles in the Henry J for a new bolt pattern, he wasn't so sur he wanted to tackle the hardened axles. So I ended up sending them back to Moser for a drill and tap to change from 5x5.5 to 5x4.75, 2 day turn around, so quick service and now I'll have the same bolt pattern all around.
I got those back and last night I installed the studs in the axles and axles back in the car, today I redrilled the drums and slipped on some front runners I have to check it out. Now I've got to swap out the slicks and street tires off the old ford rims and put them on the chevy rims, fun stuff.

Still doing body work, pretty much just changed locations!

On Monday morning, we (I) sanded the entire truck with 220 on a Da.

Tuesday morning my buddy shop two coats of epoxy primmer. At some point I intend to install a bed cover, and we spoke about a possibility of spraying the inside of the bed with bed liner. Since I was unsure, and after to 220 sanding, there was a lot of still bare metal, we went with the epoxy.

Thursday I spent the entire day block sanding with 320. It came out better then both of us expected, but there were a few pin holes that needed filling. The plan was to spot fill and block the pin holes, spray it with high build primer, hit it with 400 on the DA, and then paint.

Today we covered the pin holes and I block sanded them flat. Painting it as it sat then would have been good enough for me! He saw a few other things he thought should be addressed before the final prime and paint. I wasn't happy and told him I needed it painted, NOW! If I have to do much more sanding I will probably just cut the truck in half and scrap it! I am done doing body wok on this truck.

His comment was: "Good! Now to go home!" He would do those other things he thought needed to be done, then he would shoot the last coat of primmer on it and I could come back on Tuesday to do the final DA sanding. It gets paint by the end of next week or it won't get any paint.

Hopefully one day I'll get it back out there and rise, it'll be interesting with all the changes I've made, like a totally different car I bet.

 

I got the new hood back from paint jail and put it on. It doesn’t fit the same. (?) Tried adjusting the radiator rods, one is stripped. End of task until I get different rods. But I like it, hides the aluminum headed sbc.

Mini- splits on sale for $1199 on Amazon prime day, so I put two in my shop. It’s been a HOT summer. Did the installation myself. The local company wanted $8500 to install two. Cost me $3000 total. Test day: mid 90s outside, mid 70s inside. Much better, definitely worth it.


I got the rear four-bar tubes for my roadster back from the chrome shop over a year ago and put them safely away in the house. I pulled them out yesterday to chase the threads and install the new Heim joints. When I unwrapped them, three out of four have rust damage bad enough to make the chrome peel off. Looks like they didn’t neutralize, rinse and dry them good enough. I’ll take ’em back next week. I’m trying to get the Olds rear end assembled and back in the roadster.

I did the same thing with 2 heat pumps in my house,local Bandits wanted 8500.00 to install 2 of them,i bought 2 for 2400.00 and installed them myself,ive never done it before either,that was 9 years ago,still working.There must be some good money in that line of work.6000.00 for a day and a half of work. harvey

Finally got a break to the 90's temps, so with mid 70's yesterday I could finish my lettering on my '39 Chev coupe and not have the paint trying to dry as fast as I laid it down! This is a tribute to Dave Ehrmann's '39 Chev coupe that won the US Nationals in '65-'66.

 

Been freshening up the old banger , getting ready for a week of racing on a dry lake event
in a few weeks. Made a new header, modified a Riley repo intake and fitting a magneto.

Sure am! Turned out better then I or my buddy expected. Not perfect, but is great for a "work truck and winter driver."

Wrapping up this long term project. Mechanically it’s all done but neees attention from sitting in my Dad’s shop for a decade. It needs paint, but I am going to finish it up as-is and drive it for a while. Right now I’m installing dynamat, carpet and a hidden blue tooth stereo.

Debating on Astro supremes or Halibrands for wheels. I lowered 2” all around and I’m most likely going another inch lower in the rear.

I bet I'm missing other changes. What are they?

Changes include, air cleaner, brake lines, plug wires, NEW radiator, NEW headers, coil relocated, inner fenders/firewall repainted, bottom of hood painted, and any color NOT in the black and white mixture range...REMOVED. Simple, but it really stands out better IMO. Oh and a carb heat shield.
