History NOS midget body?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Aug 17, 2022.

  1. Popped up on a midget page :)
If this one’s been posted, sorry. Did a search. Didn’t find it.
Anyway. Owner says it’s a purchase from an estate sale.

It looks a lot like a SOLAR that I had about 40 years ago & in about the same condition. That was before I was into antique racecars & sold it at the '76 Harrahs for $200, but then, I let a lot of good things get away over the years...

    No, little cars.

Is it for sale Anthony, or was the fella showing a new purchase?

  8. That has to be worth a fortune to anyone restoring a period correct midget. I know one guy with 10 or 12 midgets stashed away. It would be a nice piece to use as a model to make new bodies, if there is a market for them.

  9. Guy was wondering about the builder. Seems there isn’t any markings.
And trying to figure out value.

I'm looking at those thinking of where to stretch them for length and width and make a real car. :D

Awesome finds though, NOS body should raise some excitement.

Always thought Solar Midgets had stainless steel frames?

I don’t think they have identified it yet

  15. Don't laugh. I was driving last week and a JET SKI passes me going the other way. Some sick bastard adapted a jet ski body to a 'cycle frame. I have got to see this up close.

Its probably just as easy to build a big one from scratch. I have the bucks available.

As a suggestion : You might call the Speedway Motors Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska & as them for help in identifying this one! If anyone would know, it's probably them...

That is a cool find, Probably bought as a spare or to build another one and then forgotten in the back corner.

  25. Hate to hear that.
I’m just barely knowledgeable enough on these cars to almost know what I’m looking at. A friend of mine that past away last year had me helping him look for one. He had a v8 60 he was saving to put in one.

RIP: Cliff Blackwell! Back in the day a fair "Shoe" in his own right, & later one hell of a "Wrench" & "Crew Chief", as well as an "Owner" over the years!! Knew how to keep racing with no budget!

Truly an awesome work in design, execution, and no doubt pretty rare...kinda built in an aviation theme 30s 40s...agreed worthy of sharing truly a capsule in time...really powerful rides these were...but tiny...I'd look like an overgrown ape in one...

I saw a pic earlier in search of a Midget sitting a the back of a garage and if I remember correctly that was their focus Midgets...Harrold 1963...they had a beautiful A Roadster...they got it going I remember seeing a pic...in another thread of a show...I think it was it...

It's funny Anthony when I first opened this thread on my phone I thought it was a rural Mailbox...then a quick scroll down changed that of course...

Not being up on these I suppose it's a sizable scale up to go carting...if memory serves me there were even smaller racers than these...
