  4. Anthony, Anthony, Anthony, am I to understand that the wheels in your head are turning as you look at the photo?

  5. Love it.
Would have never thought of this.

  6. Somehow I think you would have thought of it but achieved it in a different way.

  7. Shorter, roadster style windshield frame.
Add trim to break up the color.
    But I’d drive it

    Hello,

In one of my searches for information on drag racers that match my early films, I came across an unusual photo. It was a customized 1957 T-Bird in a D/Sports Car Class at the early California State Championships held at the San Fernando Dragstrip in June of 1958. The T-Bird may have had a stock supercharged motor, but what hit the brain was that it was a custom car.

16.78 E.T. is perhaps an indication that it was not the 312 C.I. T-Bird supercharged motor after all. But, nothing against that result, at least he won a trophy at The California State Championships in 1958. Sometimes, a racer will have quicker E.T. times during the eliminations and for the final run, having been way out in front, let off before the traps. Still winning the trophy, and thus recording the slower E.T. listed time.

In our early class races against a 1957 Ford Sedan with a supercharger, that sedan was turning mid to high 15 sec E.T. times in our A/Stock Class races. He was a charger for sure.

The weird thing was not the slower times, but, that a customized 1957 T-Bird with the same Edsel taillights was listed/shown at a car show. So, as weird as it sounds, could it be the same 57 T-Bird from back in 1958?

“The '57 T-Bird would undergo a variety of cosmetic upgrades born from the now long-lost art of lead-based bodywork, including some deft alteration with 1958 Edsel Station Wagon Taillights, knife-edged fenders…”

@topher5150 Kelly Puckett built this work of art. He was going for a European styling. It was kool watching him drive it around Salina.
