Got the body back from the body shop since they bonded and molded in the helmet cowling and roughed in body. It will go back after speed week for finish work and color DC72E64A-1F75-4D4D-B4A1-9402F8506B7D.jpeg 2AD236E5-5B4F-480D-BB35-776D1E0413C6.jpeg 7EAA65FF-8089-4D14-BA96-E7393F49057A.jpeg 95EB6B5C-93C4-492C-AD06-C60255AC9C45.jpeg

You camping at the Bend again this year? My wife and I should get there by Thursday if we can haul enough cash to buy fuel! Very much looking forward to seeing this in inspection….
    And in impound, Warner-Ville!

Working on getting lines all made and hooked up, while waiting on parts. Getting a few things checked off the list each day. 6F77F7C9-CE32-4E50-89FA-3500B4B01771.jpeg 34114A9B-4297-4109-8738-350E767837CC.jpeg 9EF5D9B3-56F8-4D40-8D45-356C7021F22E.jpeg 6C88DDB0-1317-46FE-8EAA-BDAEBB4601A0.jpeg 584C9FCD-5C8E-484E-B48E-93F1486D416D.jpeg

It's a shame to hide all that beautiful pipe and hose work under a body. Maybe a clear perspex body might be the go? :D

Wow - it turned out beautifully.
    Congratulations.
Nice paint and graphics won't make it any faster but I'm looking forward to seeing the final product all dolled up.

I’m thinking that everything is just tacked up right now, and you’re going to have it inspected and then any changes needed will be done before final welding? I hauled my first sad attempt to ElMirage for the same reason back in 2009. Let’s just say my presentation wasn’t as nice as this one! But I did learn a bunch from doing it, so it’s all good.

Its a little more than just tacked up. All systems are installed and function, plumbed, wired, ect. Some major drive line parts were not going to come in in time so i didnt rush to finish all welding, paint and powder coat. Even though i am a tech inspector i want the other guys to look it over and make sure i didnt get blind to any problem areas

With the amount of rain that fell they well be hard pressed to race this year.

Saw the car on Friday, wow! What a piece of automotive art! 208DF75D-4BA7-4433-A604-A43F7E5316C2.jpeg I saw it again on Sunday……

Bare metal and salt water not good! I’m sure Mike can fix it all, but it was deep out there. All I had to rescue was my trailer I haul my Samurai in and then use as a pit platform for shade and radios and the BBQ. Coming out the salt tater chips beat the fenders back almost into the trailer tires!

Hope to see everyone back next year cuz Bonneville is the Best Place on Earth!

    wow
    bummer
I am heartbroken to see your car inundated by the brackish water. I hope you can get it all cleaned and preserved before any serious damage is done. I know this is not the same tragedy as receiving grave news about a loved one, but a true work of art needs to be preserved and curated. Good luck.

Did the tech folks give it their blessing? Were there any issues with making it OK to race?

yea i made it and have the file to where i can cut more if needed

thank you. yep i was on the salt before the weather came in

    yep it was rough lol

thanks for checking it out and the kind words. yea it sucks but nothing i can do about it other than move forward, clean it up and finish the car.

two very minor things to change on the car. what they mentioned would not have prevented me from running if the car was done, but just a couple things they would prefer were changed. should only take a couple hours to do the recommendations and then should be good to go.

A little update. Car is all apart, chassis is fully welded and heading to sand blast and coating today. Started getting some parts back from coating. What did Tech want you to change. I’m sure it was pretty simple, just another way to skin that cat. Glad you got it out of the soup. Did your truck or trailer have any issues coming home? Looking forward to seeing you run this car, it’s going to go FAST!

truck never went out in the brine had someone one else pull the trailer out for me. trailer did fine, washed everything as well as i could in wendover and pumped a bunch of fresh grease in wheels bearings to clean it out.

they wanted to me modify inertia switch to be vertical instead of horizontal, move a brake line to the other side of the tube ( it was within .375 of the seat belt) and move shoulder belt mount point inward towards each other about an inch. all they mentioned would not have failed me in tech, they said they would like it better if those were changed so i did.

Take the wheels and brake drums off the trailer if you haven’t and soon. I thought I had done a good job flushing them too. 3 years later I had to replace the entire units. Good thing trailer suppliers have them as complete units and ready to bolt on…. Yes I had to grind and chizzel the bolts off.

I have an additional question -
When you did all the finish welding did you find any warpage in the frame? It looks like you may have been able to do all the finish welds in the rotisserie. I once built a drag street roadster and after finish welding up the chassis on the garage floor the frame rails had "wowed up" about 1/4". Fortunately both sides distorted the same amount and suspension adjustment was able to handle all the warpage.
