I am possibly getting a 1963 Olds 98.A 2 door and always wanted a 1961 to 1964 Olds 98.A customer of my Boss's,his mom passed and she was the 2nd owner with 33,000 actual miles on it.He did show me pictures of it and no rust on it which were on his phone.Told him I interested in it and he is going to talk to his brother, knows to get with him on this instead of selling it behind his back.It does run, went through the fuel system.

bumpers are $$$. don't crash it. parts are hard to get.
but the 394 is a great engine.

That's cool, I had a '64 98 for a while. As mentioned, rear bumpers are really hard to find in good shape, the 394 is a great engine but the slim-jim is not a favorite. Still, if it looks good in person and the price is right, they're neat cars.

Sounds like a great car to me, hope you get it, and welcome to the hamb. Lots of knowledge here to help you have a nice reliable ride.

  7. I had a '64 88 and a '62 Starfire convertible. The 88 was my 1st car and the 1st engine I had apart for a valve job. When they are running right, they are hard to beat for ease of driving and comfort.

  8. Remember.... on a '63 Olds 98.... left is PORT...right is STARBOARD! As far as marker lights: "Red, right returning."

The 1st car I drove was my dad's 64 Dynamic 88 with the 394. This 16 year old kid had a blast with that car all those years ago. For some reason, I had to buy a replacement transmission...

Twenty years ago I replaced a rear bumper on an old lady's 64 Olds. 98. I had to get the bumper out of a salvage yard in AZ. I think, even back then, it cost over $400. It was a really nice bumper though.

"Possibly" I would also presume is how much $ they are going to ask for it.
Do your research on approx market value.
2 Door is a big plus.

    Try this for reference.

    https://www.collectorcarmarket.com/valuereport/1963-oldsmobile-models.html.

    https://www.collectorcarmarket.com/valuereport/prices/condguide-prices.html

With no reference pic - see what they asking and maybe use a #3-4 condition as a starting point.
Negotiation is always part of it - just educate yourself on approx $ value.
They may start at #2 condition - you start at #4 and - you get what I mean with out insulting anyone.
Find a agreeable price you both will be happy with.

Heck - they may want to sell it to you at a very under market value price being a lady like their Mom.
Ownership history and low mileage is a plus.

Good Luck and yea pics to look at is a good discussion point.

  16. My '64 drove well.. I thought. Then at work, I drove a customer's '61 88... it was like driving on a cloud. Super quiet compared to mine at the time.

Make sure before you buy it that they have all the title and paperwork IN HAND. None of this "we will find it later business."

  21. Brake work is no biggie. And those cars stopped well with drum brakes all around. I would take a 4-door right now. My '64 was a 4-door and had a perfect interior.
