anyone going to the good guys event on the 4th of july weekend in des moines? I plan on being there, but i don't trust my old junk 37 Ford coupe to make the trip without a breakdown, so will driwe the van. i know , it sucks ,but I am too old to work on hot rods along the highway in 90+ heat.

We are leaving SE Wisconsin early Thursday morning, will be at the fairgrounds all day Friday and Saturday. Sunday is open to all the late model Sh*t so we head for home in the morning.

  5. I'll be there, but in the late model. Long story short, I've got too many people to transport and gas is expensive, so the 39 is staying home.

I will be hanging out with my uncle in the Autocross pits, he has a 68 Camaro he'll be racing.

One of the best GG locations they have I think , Always incredibly hot weekend temperature wise .. maybe I'll go

  7. I agree on the location, the Iowa State Fairgrounds is a great venue with lots of shade. I live near Texas Motor Speedway and rarely attend GG there. Just don't care for the racetrack venue.

    It’s a fantastic drive from Wisconsin…Hwy 20 West out of Dubuque…to avoid I-80 hell!
    Yes, great Fairgrounds.

Since day 1 have attended all 30.
    This will be 31.

Looking forward to seeing you fellas there.

This picture is from the 25th event.
The plaque being held up was the 25th Anniversary appreciation from the Iowa Reps and people of Desmoines that Goodguys - Gary Meador’s chose Desmoines.

Gary put it in one of the Goodguy's Gazzettes that Desmoines was his favorate show.
He could have said all of them but said Desmoines.
Sadly we lost Gary later that year, winter before the 25th..

For all you guys that don’t know what I look like….. tan pants/ blue slicker with the Mic

30 years? This will be 31? Holy cow how time flies. Going to try to make it but wish there was an event like the Cannonball Run in Cedar Rapids that died when GG came around.

I'll be there in my 54. Picked up my packet this morning.
BTW, there was a lot of construction on University between I-235 and the Fairgrounds.

I only made it to two of those cannonball runs. I was 16-17 at the time. It was a great rod run.

The poker run was a blast. 5 stops with only clues for directions and not everyone got directions in the same order.

I drove from Dubuque. I think it's funny to read different opinions on the route. I absolutely HATE highway 20. It sucks going East, it sucks going WEST.

    I took I-80.

    Different strokes I guess.

OK. I gotta hear this story. I remember NSRA in Cedar Rapids. I don't remember the Cannonball Run.

You should thank a trucker (s). If not for them, your parts will never arrive. Among everything else.

It was behind a hotel down by Hawkeye Downs. Not affiliated with NSRA or such. It was just a small gathering of a couple hundred cars where everyone came out, had fun, and went home for the most part. Flame throwing, valve cover races, show, poker run, music, and good times.

This was built 30 years ago in Omaha Nebraska (35th and L street) for a guy in Nebraska City (Dean Jordy) then sold 20 years ago. Now resides in Des Moines.

That's my dad! It started as a restored truck, then we update the chassis with lowering it, swapping to later steel wheels, and an OT powertrain update.
