Lots of room in the engine bay. I'm planning a sbc swap and thanks to the guys on this forum's help I will get to it. Big issue for me is the torque tube set up which I will have to change to open drive. 58-Rambler-Super-DV-10-AACA_e03.jpg 58-Rambler-Super-DV-10-AACA_e04.jpg lamar.jpg

Please, not another 350 crate motor. How about an AMC 327?

  4. Squirrel, I had a Rambler once. These guys came in pretty handy.

Can't afford a crate motor so most likely an early sbc. I know it's sad to say, but after driving it for over thirty five years on the original 6 cylinder with the push button transmission finding and the cost for parts has become a problem. 59 rambler.jpg 2011-05-2019_58_42.jpg

Dad had a used 61 Pink Rambler Wagon when I was a youngster, I still love Wagons and drive a Chevy II Wagon daily.

the only thing in this thread that really belongs on the HAMB is Moriarty's posts showing old hot rodded Ramblers :)

(yeah, I started the thread knowing full well that the cars I'm talking about are not HAMB cars at all, in the traditional sense, yet they've become widely accepted as cool cars by the world today)

A coworker had one of these but he changed the letters to read Mabel which seems much nicer than Lamer.

I thought about it but Mr Moriarity responded on here , so I was just doing in kind. More important things in the world but this is an information board and I like to be informed . I guess I will just get back to work on my ‘48 F1 hot rod . :)

Just because it’s a Rambler doesn’t make it a hotrod. The kids 63 has a cammed small-block, 8” ford rear located using c10 truck arms, sub rails, custom crossmembers, home built duel exhaust etc etc. that car is a hot rod in every sense.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or maybe a Hot Rod is in the eye of the beholder. I am not a Rambler man, but would anybody refuse to drive this 64 990? 21752833_316614152137623_3205918003794487039_o.jpg

Ya know Jim is probably eyeballing that LS7 he just pulled…bet he’s formulating a plan to freshen it up, no use letting it just sit, right?

Every time I see my '63 Rambler I love it more and more. I love that people will come up to me to ask what the heck it is.

    It's been a blast to build and drive 20220510_180541.jpg 20220404_163054.jpg 20210810_193508.jpg 20220131_155819.jpg 20220131_155804.jpg 20220419_175759.jpg 20220124_122806.jpg 20220124_122719.jpg 20220124_122724.jpg

That HAMBer that takes his family on trips around the USA in a Rambler wagon might disagree with the ugly moniker.

It's the same in my part of the world. Cars my dad's generation looked down on, like my grandfather's Austin A55 Cambridge, have gradually become cool. Even cars my generation looked down on in the '70s and '80s, Datsun 120Ys and such, are getting a sort of rose-tinted revisionism. I catch myself harbouring shocking sympathies when I compare that stuff to what is available now.

It's overoptimistic nostalgia, sure, but it's absolute scarcity, too. We're not dealing with a renewable resource — and that's not just the way of the world. It's imposed, engineered scarcity of a good which was specifically designed so that its existence depended on levels of capital investment which are practically amortizable only over large production volumes. The starker the reality that this stuff is never coming back, the more desirable it becomes.

I thought Jim had like a small hangar full of BBCs. Just the impression I got? :)

Purpose-designed taxis is another region of the automotive weird I've got a soft spot for.

A few years ago at the CHRR at FAMOSO, this cool rambler wagon showed up. It certainly wasn't boring, ISKY signed his name on it. Pardon the editing.

Nobody here can make fun of your car! You have done a hell of a job on it. In my minds eye that is the model A or Willys of your generation. A cheap car to hot rod! That is the very definition of a hot rod. Don’t worry about what some may think, we think your Golden here! In this modern time you are the definition of traditional.

  30. Dodges were a pile for ever until the ones with the Hemi and wedge V8's came along. Imagine yourself pulling into the local drive-in in the 50's in a 50 Dodge.
