Hoping to do the same with mine, get her on the road and drive her... Ramblers are cool, much like Checker cars and such.

  2. Wait a minute....... I seem to remember Squirrell having an Edsel a while back..... We're seeing a trend here, guys. I hate to say it, but I think I see a Pontiac Aztek (OT) in his future..... or maybe a Vega!

I would'nt snub a 51 Airflyte convertible, Lois Lane's daily driver to the Daily Planet served her well.... would look good street rodded, sort of a 'B' 400 type body.

  4. Hey, to a lot of people ANY old car is cool! The 'traditional' cool cars have been swept up by us geezers that hold on to them, then ask astronomical $$$ for them. Face it, not everyone can dump the equivalent of a year's pay in a hobby car!! Anyone that keeps an old car alive is Jake with me!

People ask me often what kind of car my 54 Plymouth is. And what's a Plymouth, let alone what's a Plaza.

When I was in high school, my '31 Model A pickup was way cooler than a 54 Plymouth. And the Plymouth was a relatively new car.

What he needs is a '60 Valiant to park next to it.

From the movie A Perfect World.
    • (Kevin Costner) "Hey, you ever ridden in a time machine before?"
    • (Kevin Costner) "Well sure you have, what do you think this is?"
    • (Phillip 'Buzz' Perry) "A car."
    • (Kevin Costner) "You're looking at this thing bass-ackward, this is a twentieth century time machine. I'm the captain,"
    • (Kevin Costner) "your the navigator. Now out there that's the future"
    • (Kevin Costner) ", back there,"
    • (Kevin Costner) "well that's the past. If life's moving too slow, you wanna project yourself into the future just step on the gas right here,"
    • (Kevin Costner) "see?"
    • (Kevin Costner) "If you wanna slow her down, well hell you just step on the brake here and you slow her down."
    • (Kevin Costner) "This is the present Phillip, enjoy it while it lasts."

Old cars are fun. Even the lame ones.

Ever since that one dude posted the thread on here about driving his dad's Corvair from Arizona to Minnesota (?) I've sort of had my eye out for one. Man, that car looked like a lot of fun.

As Jim likes to don the appropriate attire while motoring, perhaps some suggestions for the new machine?

    Joel had a great trip.

My brother has his Corvair up for sale, it's one I bought five years ago, took on a LeMons Rally to the PNW with a stop in Idaho to watch the eclipse on the way home. But it's down in Tucson, probably too far for someone to drive all the way to New Jersey :)

  19. Ooh a 4 door sedan, just like mine! Mine has a white roof and black interior though, which is strange for a southern car.

One of my H.S. classmates ( in '63 ) had a brother whose fifty something Rambler 6 was fitted with Split exhaust and glass packs. We would tell him it sounded cool, snicker snicker:p

  23. These are the misfit cars that nobody wanted back in the day. Look at some of the Mopars from 1960 to 1963... butt ugly at the time, but now they are getting some love.

In the early/mid 60s a friend had a 51 Merc 4 door. If anyone poked fun at it, they laughed out the other side of their heads when that Merc beat most of what they driving.

What are you people moaning about, over there in the Promised Land? Check out our British fifties and sixties stodge for ugliness or lack of go!

This was my dads old, 65 Checker Marathon, I drove it for years, great running old 283 with a Borg Warner transmission. To me it was never boring, it was built like a tank and could carry a ton of stuff.
