How about a Galaxie built for two?....."The Spinster"....

 

My buddy Boo's 1957 Laguna Spider. One of none. Hand built all aluminum body. Original concept pictures drawn in high school. The build took 25 years and was finished about four years ago. Boo is 80.

 

Yeah, I've built a few phantoms...

Lee, that car is amazing, your pal Boo has defiantly built a car that could rival most any sports car available, the car is beautiful.

It is a work of art. Like I said it started as a few drawings in high school, probably tucked in his math book, and Boo is now 80 and a H.A.M.B. member. It started as a wooden buck then spray foamed and carved out. A fiberglass mold was made and a body pulled from that. Then the aluminum body was formed from that. About the drive train - all Ford. One of those non HAMB friendly late model 4.6 SOHC V8s, I believe, 5 spd manual and a re-engineered Ford independent rear, T-bird??? All that on a hand built frame, not sure about front suspension. Paint is Mercedes silver. Interior in black Italian leather by Tommy Johnson in Altamonte Springs, FL, Picture added. I got to go with Boo to pick it up from upholstery, first picture, he did a couple hot laps in Tommy's driveway. A kid in a candy store comes nowhere close to his experience that day after a 25 year build! I forgot to add that we affectionately refer to Boo's sporty car as the Boorrari.

I realize these are more " late model", but the Stanford designed Chevy with Starliner roof and this " shrunk" 396 powered Nomad get my vote!

I once considered grafting a mustang fastback roof on a XR7, A FE, phantom Eliminator Cougar. When I got out of the rehab clinic I had forgot all about it. Lord help me accept the things I should not build.

 

Try this again….rare FORD with the Dutch Darren treatment usually reserved for Packards, Cadillacs, Lincolns and other high end cars in the thirties. Fortunately, this example has 16” wheels and should pass muster with the mods.

 

I am not a sports car guy, but this car absolutely takes my breath away. I think it is stunning.

 

Almost forgot another of my pal Boo's one offs. It's a 1911 or so Oakland roadster pickup. Started life as the front half of an Oakland touring sans doors that was in the Daytona swap several years ago. We all looked at it and shook our heads but Boo saw another build and hauled it home. In short order he had it together with a home made bed and windshield, Ford grill shell, and his favorite power plant - a flathead. He finished the interior off with fringed Austrich hide. The pictures were taken at the Black Dog Garage Rod-B-QUE here in Florida. The license plate on it does say "1 OF NONE". That's my junker sitting next to it.

 

What a masterpiece! Boo should be very proud. How many Sports/Specials never made it to completion? Not only did the guy come up with a timeless, tasteful design, he actually finished it! Only problem is trying to find a safe place to drive it! I'd be sick out in traffic with something like that, far more valuable than a Duesenberg or Ferrari to that guy. How many thousands of hours did he put into it?

Heres a 1939 Mercury built on a new Mercury chassis in 1939 by Dutch Monte-Carlo rally driver Maus Gatsonidis who later invented the Gatsometer ( first speed camera ) The car was named KWIK which is Dutch for Mercury.

 

I like it! It is actually very stylish although I do not see too much ‘39 Mercury. The rear fenders look more like a ‘40 Merc.
The taillights are obviously ‘39 Ford, I actually prefer the “juice can” style ‘39 Merc lights because they are so “dumb”.

Did this 55-56 hybrid back in the 70's, more out of necessity, than purpose.
Also building this one I've wanted to do for many years!

Many moons ago, I cut up my 1937 slantback to resemble what aa Victoria body style might of looked like. It's been on the road since 1990.
