Hey @CGkidd - did we go to the HAMB chop together circa 700 AD??!!

 

Hi , I am not an expert in this by any means but my driveline is 1932 B engine,1932 gearbox with 1939 gears inside,A torque tube and a Pacific Quick Change centre section in to a standard A axle .I am hoping this will give a nice reliable driving car using all traditional hot rod parts

 

Checking in, having the building redone were my A is , hope to get back to it in a week or two.

sounds stellar... I have been wanting to swap to a 32-39 box myself lately...

Put 100 miles on it in the last week, got my fueling issue fixed... 1/4" to 3/8" now makes gravity work stellar...


Rolled 70 without issues now... Need to tighten up the steering box a smidge to push farther than 70 at this point but she does it and pulls strong... Car seems to really feel planted and dialed in at 65 though... But some of that is probably the factory caster setting and bias ply tires. Best upgrade to date is the Mallory YA dizzy...

Went to Coffee and Cars this last Sunday, haven't been in years, remembered why but made alot of people smile and blow by looking at the corvette boys etc... So spreading the gospel I guess you could say...



Then decided to hit a nice little area for a pic on the way home...

 

I forgot to add that I have a Thomas head, Equaliser inlet,2x81 strombergs and a pair of Paul Yapp Y exhaust manifolds ............any idea how nippy it will be?

 

Our Speedster with similar set-up ( B Motor, Thomas 7:1 Head, Thomas Intake with 2 81’s, and custom header) has 79 HP on a Chassis Dyno.

Should be pretty stout compared to a A motor... Id probably say you will be in the mid 60 to 70 hp area. Slide a cam in that block and really start getting the HP up. My coupe is at 95 with my setup and the motor isn't smooth, its rowdy but it pulls everywhere...

Personally I think your spot on right where you are at with dependable and drivable fun.

They do sound good cammed though... Just FYI...

I now know why my banger won’t start !

 

Does anyone recommend using a “Fire Wire” between cylinders when installing an OHV Head on a Model A/B Engine?

 

I vote for McDowell... the raided bosses at either end near the intake ports seem familiar. Pics from an original ad posted last month...

She’s a beauty! And clearly shows the top profile of the McDowell head is different than the one posted above. Anyone else...?

I would almost tell him to pull dimensions from mounting stud holes and lay that out on cardboard, real fast and easy way to go through and see what it fits.

 

As a point of reference, this is a 28 Chevy Head. The. intake port flanges are vertical, and Spark Plugs are installed at an angle.

Hey RWRJ, I do not know the magnet in the flywheel trick ? I can assume … I’ve been working an extension magnet in there and have had some luck with the Bendix spring clips that were lost.

 

Stupid question probably... I know there is a gasket for between the header and the block on my B. Is there any sort of gasket to go between the burns intake and the header?

 

Yes, I'd recommend it. I made my own out of gasket making material.

 

i made my own out of good gasket material , used gasket sealer . been working for years ...................

I usually hang onto the gasket when the exhaust burns thru and re use just the intake portion...rests on the studs nicely for assembly

I have a boatload of banger stuff including performance parts. Are there any swap meets in northern New Mexico, Colorado Springs, Denver, Grand Junction, etc. in the next couple of months?

 

Yeah. Just stick one of those small, powerful magnets behind the ring gear, take the plugs out, and turn it through until stuff stops sticking to it. First time I did mine, I picked up a couple of bolts and about five of those little eared washers. Some of it was probably down there since 1928.
