Happy Friday everyone! Here's a sketch of an old Buddy L pressed steel hot rod I scratched out a couple years ago.

  9. Very nice Bob. The car isn't bad either.

Also, I missed last week. I was on a road trip. I know all was well though.

All three of the subjects in your painting can cause trouble. Great job 57 Corvette Bob.

    Hello,

Last week, my wife and I drove to her parents’ old house in Huntington Beach. We saw all kinds of old cars and one in particular stood out. It was sitting in a driveway a few doors down the street. The paint was the standard black that we usually associate with these big old cars. Movie stars, flashy rock musicians, and even some good old custom car guys have owned/worked on these cool convertibles. There is even some mystery to our USA history as to seeing it used in a parade.

We felt sorry for the local convertible that we saw, as it looked as if it needed some great care. Sitting in the driveway in a salt infused, daily dose of reality, just does not do any car, let alone a classic, any wonders.

From our past 20 something days living at the beach area, we know that every afternoon, the strong West winds blow toward the inland areas, across the street from the PCH Highway. So, everything that does not have a good coat of wax or even if you do have the old car waxed, the daily salt air is not hot rod or classic car friendly. The driveway was just less than a 1/2 mile from the ocean. Yes, the top was down and exposed to everything in the air.

But as long as our drawing boards are usable and the ideas come out for free, this old Lincoln has some mild to wild custom features. The stock front windshield was cut down to make a slight chop, if and when the top is put back in place. The odd thing is, the old Lincoln convertibles that we usually see, never have the convertible top secured in place. These big old cruisers just seem to be convertibles, rain or shine. These would have a slight chop to add to the custom look.

The standard chrome wheels were replaced with custom Buick Skylark Wire Wheels as those have the cleanest wire wheel spokes that aren’t low rider style. If money talked, the Borrani Wire Wheels would have been the wheel of choice, but those are not HAMB friendly.

A shade of Tahitian Red or for those that like the candy colors. Most Lincoln Convertibles we saw in the old So Cal car shows were mild customs and looked to be daily drivers.

A custom color Candy Apple Red with a hint of Florida/So Cal Oranges would bring on the accolades…
