This was from a great little book I used to have titled
" Jimmy Murphy and the White Duesenberg " Illustrated by Raymond Briggs.
I always liked the illustrations in that book.

  11. Here's a concept that would have made a great family car back in the day for those with enough bucks.

    Hello,

The similarities between great looking modified roadsters can be seen in a lot of the early builds. Some ideas taken from other record setting racers and a few great ideas of their own made the early builds interesting. It stayed that way for quite some time, although there were some odd ball creations in the name of “go fast” ideas.

But, the tried and true stock roadster body with a powerful motor and driveline usually were the top runners in those days. Today, the drag racers all look the same in those pro ranks. In the late 50s and early 60s, cool looking, efficient modified roadsters were a big hit with hot rod/drag race crowds. The attraction was that the roadsters could have been ones they were driving on the street.

A version of the Buck and Bohls Modified Roadster appeared in the 1958 March Issue of Hot Rod Magazine.

    Crewed by Buck, Bohls, and
Frank Miller, the old lakes racer had now been built into a drag racer.

In 1958, they raced in the OKC Nationals and made a big hit with the racers and spectators.

Hmmm... I seem to have lost me 1st post somehow? Let's try this again, shall we? :)
Cool Mercs Spoggie! I too lean towards the 2nd one mate. It's just me, but my preferences always lean towards lighter inserts.
No Frosty Flakes for me this mornin'... what with Jigger's sweet offerings. Too much sugar is bad for me, and my wife already wants to know if I want one lump or two??? :)
Frogz... Like Sancho, I really dig your '58!

    ... "Sweet Bowtie"...
