Haha. That artwork is great.

 

My Pops had a jacket made and stitched when he was stationed in Okinawa (1965?). It was a black jacket and he had a large pie-crust slick with smoke coming off in a burnout and the words "SHOTGUN STABLES" above in an arc, and "Blood Street, Lyme Conn" on the bottom. Sadly, I don't have a pic.

 

These Two Home Town Clubs Were The Hoods VS. The Goodie Goodies...

 

^^^ yep, lots of car club jackets out there -but, find one made out of a Levi jacket - more common for motorcycle clubs

 

I don't know...somehow I picture the black jacket with the NHRA patch as being the rule followers.

 

It Was The Opposite And You Could Not Be In The "Slicks" Unless You Were Married And Attended The Same Church As The Club President...Our "Coupes Inc." (1957) Started The First Idaho Drag Strip And Survives To This Day..

That’s pretty cool. I likely wouldn’t have waited an hour to start the conversation. I am “that guy” that typically starts a conversation a few minutes after getting my seat. I have had some great conversations stuck next to someone for a while.

Totally interesting thread, about ( cool threads ).
I get the need for privacy and anonymity and avoiding people. I don't fly on commercial airliners anymore for a variety of reasons.

I think its cool that eventually, you and the kid, did get to converse about a very cool topic.

I would assume that you didn't tell him about the H.A.M.B or what it was ? And if you did, that is cool too. Possibly, sooner or later, on his own, he may stumble across this site on the internet.

Purely as an idea of what could have possibly happened, is, if you had a couple of the cool H.A.M.B. smaller decals in your jacket pocket, to spontaneously give one to the kid, and say nothing about what it is, or what it means.



But all of that being said, considering the normal situations, as you have described so often, there would be no reason to have those decals in your pocket, because of the need to not engage people !

Still, it was cool that the kid, via his cell phone and that cool jacket he was wearing, gave you the inspiration to compose this thread !

The only obscure club piece I have is from a local club that was started at Boy's High School back in the 50's.

Jackets were cool,but South Florida had some low$ clubs too,a few just had T-shirts. if at all. I think same was true in more then a few places.
I did do some for clubs,airbrushed custom T-shirts for a few small clubs in the late 1950's n early 60s,club name n emblem,or the guys wildcar caricature with club name n his. Maybe not as cool as jackets,but cheaper an no minimum limit.
I had fun with it,an was in 3 car clubs myself.
I should of been smarter n done silk-screenings,like Mouse n Roth,but being a teen artist n hotrod nut,thinking one off art was better. When hindsight proved me not so great at biz ,,thinking back. Still had a really good time an got to meet a lot of great hotrodders.

Saints Rockford plate & patch (city northwest of Chicago) I can’t find anything about them. I’m not sure if they were a car club or racing team

Automotive Pilots looks to be very early and can’t find any info on them either

I'm pretty sure it was Big Willie and the Street Racers who really popularized the sleeveless denims with their logo. I've had this poster on my wall for over 50 years. Disregard the OT Superbird.

Most Of These Clubs Are Gone But Not Forgotten..

 

The Vagabonds of Lancaster are still active, there a rod &custom club. A grate bunch of guy's . Good story & pictures thanks or sharing.

 

Always nice to see the old car paraphernalia still floating around!
