Not a famous car, but this was my friend, Joe Bacon's 49 in about 1991. It was the car that made me fall in love with customs, which I had not really paid attention to before.
It was fairly mild, with a built and fully chromed and polished 425 naiolhead Buick in front of a polished stainless firewall.
I was fortunate enough to know him when I was stationed in Florida, he was from Orlando.
I did hear that in about 1995, after I had returned home to Minnesota, that a semi lost a wheel in front of him on his way to the Turkey rod run in Daytona, and the car went over it, hurting it badly. That report also said he was going to chop it during it's resurrection.
He showed me a set of rechromed DeSoto teeth that he had stashed away while I was there, so I would assume they were added to the rebuild. I did not see the car, nor was I able to get in touch with him after that. Maybe I wouldn't even recognize it today.
He did show me pics of it when he still had a Merc grille with the center "glob" removed, and I liked that better than the Chevy teeth in the pic.
My 49 will be a whole lot like his in this pic, with a smoothed 49 grille.

Are these Mercury’s making a come back? It seemed to me they use to be wildly popular, but then kinda drifted out!

Freddie Rowe Merc was one of my favorites. I thought Bill Layman did an outstanding job restoring it.

  11. One of my favorites owned by my buddy Steve Rohlman.

Koolest Merc that I've ever seen with square headlights. Loved seeing it drive in at the '84 Merc Deuce Reunion

Yep, it was around that time I took these pictures in Dorchester Ontario. A few years later it turned up this color. 645.jpg

This is my favorite built by the common man. Gorgeous job and featured right here on HAMB. Best 4 door I have ever seen done.

  19. Is there more on this on the HAMB such as a feature or build thread?
    It's amazing!

Said it before, there is just something about the back of Mick's Merc, the way the bumpers and tail lights blend into the body. I've always liked the '54 Merc tail lights on these cars but this is WAY KOOL!! Resized_2[1545].jpg
