If I remember correctly, from when it was last posted, that is from Australia and is using what they have available and the rules they have down under

    lb,
While that may be true - the "Riverside D[rags]" had me guessing - it still doesn't excuse the poor judgement and poor taste used when bashing that thing together. I've seen enough fine looking Aussie cars to know they can also exercise both good taste and sound build principals.
Just because it is "period correct" does not make it, well, er, "correct".

  17. Benny Rizzio's fuel coupe. ^ Benny passed a few years ago and the coupe was in the garage of his mother's house, EXACTLY as it is in that photo. Don't know what his daughter did with it.

Wonder how they sealed the crankshaft to timing cover gap.? IMG_20211123_101625898_HDR.jpg

  26. I'm guessing this article and photos were of a work in progress based on there being no floor in the cockpit.

  27. Could you actually run a motor without the harmonic balancer and make it live? Wouldn't it vibrate itself to death?

That would be a harmonic "damper" on that crankshaft. No "balancing" done on early small blocks.
And sure, plenty ran without in those days. It was considered a lot extra weight that the crankshaft had to spin-up.

As for the Richardson car above, if you look at the interior, there's a LOT more missing than just the damper.
Missing floor, no steering of any kind, clutch and gas pedals, normally you'd see some sort of seat belt, even at that angle of the camera.

It appears all shiny and new...key word..."new".

Yes, very few early cars had dampers. They just had pulleys for the fan and water pump.
