I can see a Ukrop speed T shirt in the future that’s a cactus growing in a ford top shifter trans case

    Hey @J.Ukrop
Bravo on a well done T-Shirt design!
When the limited production run of those shirts happen, put my name on that list to purchase one of them. Give me your T-Shirt size, and I will be glad to send you one of my shirt designs as well with the payment for one of yours!
    Thanks from Dennis.

The prickly Pears on the cactus to the right make good wine. I have 13 gallons of it in the basement ready for bottles.
Put me in for a shirt! Here is the logo I did for the Inliners convention in 2012. I wish I gotten a few more of them.

Thank you, hope you had a great Christmas and New Year! I've hauled cacti before and I'll do it again. You're on the shirt list!

I like the sound of that! I'll float the idea over to the art department.

Love it! And sounds like a plan!

Oh man, I'll have to try the wine when I stop by. That sounds incredible! Nice work on the shirt. I especially like the details on the truck and the finned lettering up top.

Things have been pretty busy around here as of late between work, fun and freelance projects (which I'll share more about later). The main order of business is still parts collecting. I have a number of items either in the mail or finally (almost) figured out. Decisions, decisions, right?

In the meantime, I've just been driving the car whenever I can. The other night, I took it downtown to pick up some Detroit-style pizza from a new spot in SOMA.

That's the top of the Civic Center's dome on the right.

Back at home base, I've been chipping away at small paint projects. The new spring and shackles are ready for the Deuce chassis. Next up, I'm cleaning up the perch pins and painting the axle.

Once those steps are finished, I'm drilling and painting the backing plates. That's going to be fun!

Driving around in this car can be surreal sometimes. Tonight, while cruising over to the Presidio, I was feeling particularly nostalgic. The air was crisp. The roadster rolled along beneath the streetlamps' golden glow. As I worked my way through the gears, I realized how comfortable I feel behind the wheel. Very rarely do I grind the gears. Upshift, double-clutch, downshift, right turn, left turn, U-turn, parallel park—although maybe not in that order. This is a challenging city to drive in, but I enjoy every moment of it in this car.

I always ask myself: what would I do if I saw a car like this roaming the streets at night? I'm not exactly sure, but I know I would be pretty damn excited.

    More updates coming soon.

Photo by Xander Cesari earlier this winter (too dark for photos last night!) That's Golden Gate Park to the left.

    Good shots/ thoughts.

there’s something kinda magical about that first little while of driving the car after being away for a while.

wether time or distance was the issue, it starts a little harder. Steering’s a little funky.

but the more your in the car moving down the road, rowing threw the gears the grudges the car is holding onto start to work away.

the shifts come into place perfect, you find your heal placement on the worn floor. It all starts jiving together.

it’s not unlike a scene played out in a dozen movies but it still feels good every time.

I do hope your going to ditch the nylock nuts for some proper castle nuts on that spring shackle set.

I looked high and low for an old set of shackles and haven’t had any luck. Got any leads?

    I think carillo makes them.

or you can just drill the stuff you have for a pin? That’s probably what I’ll end up doing

I just drill mine for a castle nut and cotter pin. But I do have these... they are old reproductions or NOS . They are 1-3/4" wide and use the steel bushings.

@dumprat do you drill straight into them or use some sort of jig?

I was thinking I’d mark and chuck up a proper sized nut in my drill press and drill that. Then spin it onto the stud that needs drilled and run it threw. That way it should land the hole in the center of the stud and help brace the drill bit from drifting/ deflecting on the round face of the stud

Tim . I just center punch where I want the hole and eyeball the rest, but I have 25+years of drilling shit this way. The best way to get them straight is to use a V block clamped down and centered correctly.

Drilling holes in the right place and straight is one of the great challenges for us one eyed guys, even with a drill press.

Those are Model A, I think Joey needs 32-34's..... His spring looks like a 32.

You can use a cotter pin drill jig, that are cheap and you can use one eye for a perfect hole. Ha, Ha.....

They used to make steel bushings 40 years ago so you could use an A shackle in a 32. I still have a set in the barn
that fit loose in the spring perch hole, that will ware your perch out in time. Where would you get a set today? You
may as well change your perches and main leaf to Model A if your bent on using A shackles. It's mush easier to
upgrade to 32-24 stuff and they look period correct and you don't have to grease them. Just sayin....
