Gotta be post of the month, some great pics in comments, leaving it with patina is perfect. Flattie fer sure, and leave that little hook in the dash, it kept em in second gear.

 

As a former CUMMINS employee it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I said who I worked for and heard "Oh, CUMMINGS". Ron

 

Good lord, I hope not. It looks like you got a good stash of parts to, at least, un-do some of the crap those dumb-ass stock car guys did to that poor little Ford.

 

Fantastic find! Looks like someone may have been accumulating parts ( doors with inner panels, grille, dash, etc. ) to build it into a street car?

I'd do the vintage racer resto but add a easily removable license plate, taillights (magnets?) so I could drive it to some local shows.

A prime example for sure, I've got to comment that it looked great with it's fresh paint back in the day, but the as found muted paint showing it's past heritage I'm certain will get more second looks than any high dollar custom finish.

 

I grew up in Muskogee and remember the Sellers sponsored car running at Thunderbird. There was some great racing back then with cars towing in from all over. Amazing that the '34 survived in such good condition, good luck with the rebuild

 

Y Block or flathead, yes. SBC, hell no.

@chaddilac, I know this is a shell of sorts but I've heard stories many of these Roundy Rounders starting out as former Hotrods...When I think of you bringing it back to street duty this is what I imagine...Perhaps you may discover evidence that may connect it to such a past...

 

I’ll see what I can dig up. The only one I remember seeing is the actual photo “stamp” that the newspaper used to stamp the photo of him standing next to his crashed 34 into the article. I’ll ask dad if he’s still got that somewhere.

 

Great news Dads still around...yeah nows the time to go through all the photos he's got especially if Hotrod/Custom was a way of life for him...could be some doozies...

 

Grandpa is still here too, thankfully. He never really was into hot rods, but he always loved racing. Dad too. They just introduced me to their friends that love hot rods and that’s how I got hooked. I’ve got a lot of old sprint car memorabilia but the majority of it is late 60’s and 70’s stuff.

Probably won't be a lot of guys that agree with me, but I think old faded out paint looks like shit. The car was sponsored by a body shop, they would have kept it well painted, maybe not fancy, but glossy at least. Most likely you'll find a lot of hammer marks where they kept it pretty well straightened out without bothering with filler.

Make templates of the lettering and paint the damned thing.

 

I can see and would appreciate either direction...There certainly is enough of the old and documentation to get things pretty spot on...

I kind of agree. Leaving that old paint/advertising/sponsor on the car is like honoring the very thing that nearly ruined it. Kind of like getting an ex-wife's name tattoo'd on your arm

The allure of this car and others like it is that they were thrown into the ring of fire ... Literally and figuratively surviving the race battles and coming out the other side. Not many can say that! Looking at the one picture of it hugging the inside line... while the rest of the field has cars climbing the fence and taking most of the competition out missing the carnage, is what dreams are made of. No pictures no proof? This one has the proof!!! Bringing back a battle torn veteran is pure awesomeness.
