Well, I'd keep that six, & add 2 carbs & 2 pipes. It would just be cool and sound like a 54 Vette.....just say'n. What a jewel !

  5. My dad had a '55 wagon with the 6 and a PG. It drove very nicely, I'd take a 4-door in that condition myself.

Thanks for all of the positivity guys, hopefully I'll get to finishing up the brake lines and brake booster in the next couple of weeks and then I can at least drop it down on to tire cribbing to see more of its height while I run the air lines, etc.

  8. Wow , what a great way to enjoy life! Simple lil 4 door 55 but extreme on quality , after going through the posts I thought I'll call it Black n Blu, thanks and keep up the cool upgrades. Happy New Year.

  9. IMHO, there is nothing sweeter sounding than a 6 cylinder Chevrolet with dual exhaust, especially when you back off the gas pedal in second gear.

Nice cruiser... I'd keep the 6, they're tough and are easy to wake up... There's a fellow named Tom Langley... out of Michigan(?) who deals in 6 parts. Manifolds, headers, adapters and such. Real nice guy and willing to help with options. Looking forward to seeing this peach on the ground!

Well, I finally finished running the brake lines and installed the brake booster today. So, my favorite part…. I was finally able to take the Jack stands off of the frame rails and lay it on some wheel cribbing. I didn’t take it all of the way to the ground because I still haven’t ran the air lines yet - but I just had to get an idea. I’m like a kid in a candy shop right now.

I could probably gain another inch in the rear by removing the bump stops, but I actually kind of dig the way it looks right now, it has a little rake which I’m in to. We shall see.

Good workmanship on the bag mounts etc. Nice 55. Thought it was funny the dealership charged to clean and wax a new car.

  15. Really neat car! Stance is everything. Keep the six. Because enjoying a perfectly good running and driving car is usually a better idea than tearing it apart.

Also, we have something in common. I recently lowered a black 4 door too! Mine is a 39 Ford.

I think the dog dish hubcaps make this thing, and the fact that it came that way from the factory helps a lot. But, I couldn’t resist grabbing a hubcap off of the wall to check it out……

To be completely honest, I think the full wheel covers with the wide white's give it more of a custom look with the new stance, and it looks Bad Ass!!! JMHO

I definitely don’t disagree with that, my long term goal would be to find a hubcap that would fit (with or wo modification) to this wheel but that isn’t a standard TriFive hubcap. Like a sombrero or something. Definitely on the bucket list for the future.

Anyone have any suggestions on hubcaps that fit the 55/57 wheel? They changed the way they clip on that year from what I understand so a lot of the popular choices don’t work like they would if the car was like an early 50’s.

I like the smaller dog dish ones. Very subtle like the rest of the car.

The full wheel covers shown get my vote. Very classy looking!

I'd love to see it in blackwalls. No caps. Maybe chrome lug nuts.

Looks great. Do you have anymore information, like parts used and or links to other tri-5 specific installs? I've been giving this thought as well. For now I'd like to just do the rear so I can get in and out of my drive-way. Eventually I'd convert the front as well. And naturally I just sold a compressor I had laying around forever from my 41 Chevy truck. Haha.

Haha, nope not yet - It's been slow going the last few weeks. I hope to get the air lines and stuff ran this coming weekend.

I've spent most of my spare time the last couple of weeks converting an old chest freezer into a kegerator so at least I do have draft beer out in the garage now.

    This car looks fantastic.

There isn't enough love for the mid-50s car that has everything you need to be a proper driver, and it's a car you can just absolutely drive the balls off of. This is one of those cars. Air conditioning, power brakes, maybe a few other conveniences.... this is a car you and the family can rack up major miles on.

I'd rather be out cruising and enjoying a car like this than some museum piece that sits in the garage.
