I have been looking for pics of the Mefford T-Bolt and the 65 Mustang, (the Bull/Mouse team) for a long time. My uncle went to Dearborn Steel Tube to pick up the Bolt in April of 1964. He also ran the 65 mustang until he went over seas to Veatnaum later in 65. He was a mechanic for Jack Mefford when Jack Lindman was running the Bolt. He does have a few stories from back then.

What's going on with the rear side windows? Looks like little vent windows.

Here is a photo of the Jack Mefford Thunderbolt on the trailer at Pence Dragstrip in 1964.

Thanks Kentuckian! I always heard stories about this car. I worked at a Linc/Merc dealer in Springfield back in the 90's and one of the other mechanics used to work at Jack Mefford when they raced it. My brother offered to buy the car for $2,500 in the 80's. Owner said not enough money, turned around and sold it to Mershon's World of Cars for same price so I was told.

I have seen this along with the other 2 pics of it on the strip. My uncle says that is most likely him walking up behind the trailer. He said there is most likely a 58 Ranchero in the same color as the truck behind it pulling the Mustang. Said they raced Pence and KilKare every weekend. The Ranchero was owned by Jack Lindman and the 65 truck was owned by Jack Mefford. I did talk to Lindman's son but he didnt seem to know much more. I believe he was Lindman's son as he new about the Shelby Mustang Jack Mefford crashed while being, lets say intoxicated. I bet you would never see a true Thunder Bolt on an open wheeled trailer these days. LOL

Wish there was a clearer pic of the door decal. Thought Jack Lindman's son said he had a pic to post but never seen that he posted it.

I am not 100% sure, but I believe the door was painted with a Bull and a Mouse to represent the Bull Mouse team. Lindman was the service manager for Mefford. Another little known fun fact about the Mefford dealership, his customer relations lady was stolen from him by George Hurst to become the first Miss Hurst, Pat Flannery. Jack Mefford also sponsored Jack Bowsher stock car racing. Who remembers Bowsher built cars? He was from South Vienna I think. He seemed to be able to get a hold of lots of Hi Po ford parts. Bowsher racing signs are still there and can be seen from Route 40. I am guessing there is still a Bowsher running out of there? Someone feel free to set me straight if I am mistaken.

My dad was best friends with Jack Bowsher growing up next door to each other in Harmony, Ohio. The Bowsher Racing sign is still in front of Jack's house but don't think any of his son's are racing anymore. My dad told me a funny story about him and Jack, they took one of his race cars out one night on Rt. 40 after Jack finished working on it and got chased by state highway patrol. They couldn't catch them...lol. Later on that same highway patrol officer seen my dad and said...I know that was you and Jack in that car! That's wild about them stealing Mefford's PR lady to be the 1st Miss Hurst!

    1964 Winternationals...Jess Tyree driving Mickey Thompson's '64 Thunderbolt in A/FX.

This is why it was in A/FX. Mickey Thompson had adapted hemi heads to the 427 hi-riser engine.

This is the first photo I have seen of the Jim Sanders Ford Thunderbolt. Anyone have any details on who the driver was?

Update: Research shows the car was driven by Bob Sanders who was the son of the owner of the dealership. Jim Sanders himself also raced the car at times.
