I thought i had asked this but can't go back and find it. Anyone know what was the last year that G M machined the fuel pump rod hole in SBC. I was sure i had asked this before, but can't find info if i did.

The 87 one piece rear main seal TBI motors had no fuel pump hole. So, 87 and up production motors, except obviously GM replacement SBCs for 86 and down.
I've heard some did and some didn't up into the mid 90's, I have an '89 block with the hole-a TPI engine.
As said 87 was the first year for injection so there was no need. I’ve built a lot of marine engines and there all over the place some have some don’t but I’ve seen them with well into the 90s I have a 2010 marine with the boss cast in place and machined but no hole. Can’t understand why they bother with the boss.
The boss is on the mold. The drilled holes for the fasteners, and the drilled and reamed hole for the pushrod are, etc. are part of the finishing process. Having them there allows the foundry to have fewer molds, as one block can serve many uses.
