This one for @Deuced Up! Maybe @rr64 Knows more about this one

This Shelby box ram style intake which was offered as an over the counter sales item from your friendly Shelby parts dealer is actually way more than that. After reading up on these and looking this piece over, the words “Buddy Bar” are cast into the bottom of the plenum. Bar was a high quality casting company at this time and clearly they made this piece. Some of the Shelby experts say that if you see one of these it means it was originally installed on a DragonSnake Cobra intended for drag strip action! That would also make it one of slightly less than 40 ever made. How awesome?!

Now, even if the DragonSnake part is not 100% true, the piece is still very rare, especially with the single 4bbl top on it. Perhaps it was run in a class where dual carbs were a no-no?

The SHELBY lettered (circa mid 1967 introduction) box ram 4V and 2-4V came out long after Shelby American stopped doing anything with Cobras. Cobras were done before 1965 was over. Shelby did not race the cars in Europe that 1965 season as Ford contracted Alan Mann Racing to prepare and race them in 1965 overseas. 427 Cobras got caught in the middle of Shelby prepared MUSTANG GT350s to boost Mustang sales for Ford and the Ford GTs to win the 1966 (and 1967) Le Mans race no matter what the cost was. CSX2019 the first Shelby drag racer, the original Dragonsnake, used 4 each Weber 48 IDA 1 carburetors according to the set up document given to the person that bought the car from Shelby American when they were done with it. CSX2019 is one of the few works racers still unrestored and essentially as it was in 1964. The second team car CSX2357 used either the Stage II 2-4V low rise COBRA induction system with Carter brand carburetors or four Weber carburetors depending on what class the car was racing in where.

I can't add to history but I had a new never used ram box with a dual 4v top. Was going to use it in a blower application but never got to it, when I find pics I will post. Definately high rpm/larger cube monster manifold.

Talked to the Buddy Bar people at SEMA this year, they have and do make so much stuff for so many different people. Still a family company and real nice people.

  14. Nice. Can you make a 2x4 top for a 471?

A couple 81's and a 97 on my old V8-60 racer. Worked great for years, mostly at full throttle !! Crosley Garage 010.jpg
