  2. Well damnit, you've got me worried now lol, i guess if it says it will work, it should work, but I've always seen that the lower gears required a 3.08 carrier. Cross your fingers for me i guess...

The lower (higher numerically) gears carriers are thicker/wider and vice versa. That said, I know that “they” make gears for the series 2 carriers up to 4.xx and have a thicker ring gear to compensate, but I only know this for the newer/smaller 7.5 rear ends like in the 3rd and 4th gen F bodies. But I’m sure you’ll be okay based on the description.

  4. Tore it apart. Ring gear is on. Gotta go to the machine shop Friday and use the press for the pinion bearing. No press in my half ass body shop  20210901_174755.jpg 20210901_182802.jpg 20210901_183723.jpg 20210901_185610.jpg 20210901_185626.jpg

  10. Thanks fellas. Read a post on @JimSibley thread where @loudbang explained how to do a video, finally figured it out lol. Still feel like thin spread shit. Got bed sores from laying around. Had big plans for this week but those have been shot to hell.

I hope that wasn’t considered the cam break in;)

I tell ya, kinda sounded like a FH V8 at idle!

  12. Wasn't that adequate for a break in period? o_O is actually a lie. That wasn't actually the first start up, that was after the 2nd run in period, first attempt ended abruptly with a serious air bubble in the cooling system issue and water going everywhere! It's running much better now, but I've gotta put the tunnel ram on it now. The cam is a lot like a big cam, only smaller. .449 lift 214@50 duration

  13. It's a 1963 283, .030 over. Flat top, heads were cut .007 if I remember correctly. Power pack heads.

I could make an anatomy reference about “a lot like a big…only smaller” but don’t want to derail your thread. :)

  15. Lol no big deal. This little engine was originally for my wife's truck, but I ended up with a newish 350 for it, so plan b was to put the 283 in my wagon, sold it, so I stuck it in the elco. Still fighting the urge to start over. Not sure how well the little engine will run in this car. 3:42 gears. I've got a little voice in my head telling me "big block", but we're also building a new home at the moment.

PUHHHH-LEEEZE Lloyd......replace that 'girlie-cam' with one that has some scrotum!! That thang bubbles like bored-out Honda!!
Shirley.........some of your "good-ole-boys"/mountain-men have an old dirt track grind camshaft to fit in your little 283. You have enough gear to spin up a big duration tight-assed LSA cam to make that Shivel-lay come alive!
Buddy of mine alway said "I don't need no tachometer.......when the oil light starts blink'in then I know it's time to shift!
    Thank BIG Big Boy!!!
Glad ya got it in and hope ya get well soon!!:)

Sounds like you might have the croup!!:D

  22. That's funny, I asked a while back, had a thread on it, and was told to be very careful about putting too much cam in it! Lmao! I'm thinking the 150 shot of nitrous will help it.

"being careful to not put too much cam in it" is such a lame statement!! With 3.43:1 gears AND a 4 speed!!!! Nawwww!
A good dirt track grind or ISKY grind (and springs).....you can't go worng.

  24. Kinda sounds wrong with 1.72 intake valves. Like the voice in my head keeps saying, build another engine.

Like my buddy always tells me when i get fussy: "id just run it" lol. Hope you're feeling better soon Lloyd.

  26. You're right HT. I might be surprised how good it comes on when I spray it. Still thinking about taking these 305 heads to the machine shop and having 1.94 valves put in them. So many options lol. I need some cream for these dang bed sores and I think I'll be alright
