My previous instance of misnaming the Hudson was it was a Humber!!
Last Friday I did a graduation drive for my friends daughter using the Hudson. We cruised in and dropped it on the ground. My friend and his wife overheard a woman asking what kind of car it was. Then she had a thought bubble and said "I know it's a Citroen" .

It’s been called a - cartoon car, - a clown car, - a gangster car, given the 2 thumbs down, - but fortunately never referred to as a Citroen, - so yes I still sleep well at night……..

Not my story, this was reported in a car mag in the mid '60s.
A fellow had parked his Ferrari on Rodeo Dr. Upon his return he found a woman admiring his car. He paused to acknowledge her. Spying the emblem she commented, "My nephew just got one of these Mustangs".

Just recalled the time I spent with a Nomad that had been campaigned on the strip. I bought it cheap with a busted hood, cut-out fenderwells, no seats, floor covering, multi colored primer etc.
A few weeks later After stripping another car, I drove into the Sunoco and pulled in front of the office fishing for admiration. The biggest mouth there steps over to yell: "Get that piece of shit out of here before I have to sweep up this pile of trash" OUCH

I worked for a small computer company in the sixties. They were having a tough time of it, so they brought in a high level executive from Control Data Corporation (remember them?) to try to get the place back on track. They paid him a bunch of money and one of the first things he did was buy a '56 Thunderbird painted a bright resale red. It wasn't a very good job and one day, he and a bunch of the other "executives" in the company were out in the parking lot "oohing and aahing" over his new ride. I was a known "car guy" even back then, so one of the group asked me what I thought of the "T-Bird". I squinted and looked it over, paused, and then asked : "What size orange did you use to roll the paint on?".

I was planning on leaving the company anyway.

Not mine but back in the late 70's I went with a good buddy of mine up to the hardware store in his newly finished '41 Ford pickup. We were outside getting ready to leave when an oldtimer [we were in our 20's]came up to my friend and seriously said "Hey don't worry someday you will be able to afford a newer truck!" True story! We never knew if he was being serious or not we sure never forgot about it.

  17. I can beat being told nice rat rod, I attended a low key cruse-In car show for charity and was given an award for "Best Rat Rod"

I bit my lip because it was a charity event.

The worst insult to me is the guy that never built anything scouring every inch of the car and pointing out the flaws tells me how it should be and then gets back in his clapped out toyota

Spoken or heard? I think somebody on this forum said that the 56 Tbird/w continental kit resembles the Nash Metropolitan. Even though I own a 55 Tbird, yes, I do see a resemblance, particularly if that 56 is a pastel color/w white top. I'm not a fan of the continental kits. I guess I'm not alone because it was standard only on the 56 model and not a factory option for 55/57. Ford listened to consumers and enlarged the trunk for 57, where the spare tire returned. If you prefer big rears, you probably like the continental kits just fine.

This thread is a reminder to not sit next to your car at a car show.
